WYZE Thermostat Yes or No?

We have a condo 90 minutes away. I was thinking about getting a WYZE thermostat. The one we have at the condo is low voltage. The WYZE will work. My problem is that the 10-12 cameras and 5-6 outlets we have sometimes get stupid for no apparent reason and can not be accessed from our phones. Is the thermostat any more reliable?
PS: we done all the typical try this, try that stuff with our present gear and NO it doesn’t always work, thank you.

I’ve seen a lot of complaints regarding the thermostat here on the forum. One big one is the need to rerun setup from scratch to make certain changes. I don’t have one and will never get one due to all the problems with wifi connectivity for all things Wyze. I use Ecobee and have never had an issue.

I wish now that I would’ve looked at this forum before purchasing a thermostat – seems to be a troublesome product. I made it worse by buying a “refurbished” product and I didn’t note that it cannot be returned. Their product page says “This is a Wyze refurbished product. What does that mean? It’s a like new Wyze product, fully tested and guaranteed to work — now at an even better price.” I rolled the dice and am out $50.

I appreciate your effort. I sat thinking about the number of times my cameras come up as unreachable on my phone, Then reachable or after unplug/replug. This thermostat would be for a place about 90 from where I usually am. I decided that, sadly, based on my current and ongoing system issues, I could not trust the thermostat to work properly on a regular basis.

After reading many comments on the Wyze thermostat controller, it seems like a pain to pop in and deal with the issues remotely. If you can stand the aggro and like to troubleshoot, it’s best to be on site.

If a thermostat controller goes out, mold may become an issue or be a power drain on your wallet. If a cam fails it’s just an annoyance.

So, even when it loses connectivity, it still runs your schedules. you just can’t control it manually with your phone without disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it.
Not saying that’s great, it’s annoying enough that I built a home assistant plug that detects when it’s lost connectivity and automatically reboots it, but it’s not like it stops working as a thermostat when it drops off the wifi.

I have owned the T-Stat since the launch. It has worked awesome for me. I’ve rarely ever had a disconnect. When I did, I pulled the unit off the wall and put it back (rebooting it essentially) and then all was good. It’s been a couple years since that happened though.

I think it’s the secret to a “Smart Home”. That’s because it has 3 temperature profiles in it… Home, Sleep, & Away.

I have Automations running that detect when the T-Stat changes it’s profile to Home, Sleep, or Away… then to do a litany of things to the other devices in the house. I also use the Geo-Fence feature of the Wyze app to switch the T-Stat to “Away” when I leave. I have never used the geo-fence feature of the t-stat.

For example, when set to away… EVERY light in the house is turned off, smart plugs that need turned off are, the front door locks, and cameras in the house (and outside) get notifications turned on. When I come “HOME”, geo-fencing detects me coming home… so it sets the T-Stat to Home, unlocks the front-door, and turns off camera notifications where applicable.

In Closing… the T-Stat works just fine. There are no WiFi connection issues or staying connected issues. I would easily buy another one if it broke. It sits nicely in my Wyze Ecosystem.

One caveat of the geo fencing feature… when I leave and my wife is still home, it will run everything as if no one is here. And then start notifying like crazy when my wife is walking around the house. My wife and I have gotten used to just walking in front of the T-Stat to make it detect a presence which triggers an automatic change back the “HOME” profile. Thereby un-doing all the “AWAY” settings. I don’t consider this an annoyance. I know they have talked about working on family member detection within the Wyze app but that’s not here yet.

If I’m 90 minutes away frm this place. If the thermostat flakes out and requires re-powering, that’s not what I want.

Right, I understand completely, but I’m seeing a lot of messaging that people wont have a thermostat that works at all if it disconnects, so I’m just trying to clear that up. The thermostat still works as a thermostat when it drops offline, it’s just not manually remotely controllable.

The thermostat does not do that. My T-Stat has been installed since 9/27/22.
