I haven’t received mine yet, and after I do, it will take over a month before I make judgement.
One of my neighbors [who knows I’m a Wyze volunteer] came up to me at a neighborhood party yesterday and told me how he has and loves this new camera so much! He said he was actually really surprised how much he really loves this device even more than he thought he would.
He also said that he hopes Wyze will start doing some other smart home products again such as a dimmer switch, etc, because there is only so much limited innovation you can continue to do with cameras. ![]()
I totally agree with him on all of the above points. This camera is pretty awesome and a great addition to the Wyze line up. Also, I hope Wyze starts doing more things outside of the camera category in the future so they can become a strong general smart home company.
But as far as cameras go, it’s awesome to see Wyze make a good battery operated pan camera! That was certainly something they were missing before now. Great product release, Wyze. It was great to hear from a neighbor friend how much they love it and that it was even better than they expected and they liked it more than they initially expected.

Oh I am totally on board with this. I have actually told several employees this multiple times including the product managers for the previous robot vacuum and some of the leadership. I have actually used a robot vacuum that has a camera on it and uses AI to avoid obstacles that lidar and other things can’t detect, including things like pet waste, Some liquid spills, things that will jam up the vacuum, etc.
Wyze could Make a great one using a camera. In addition, it could even be used to move around when you’re on vacation and do a “patrol” route or go check on your pets.
Though, if they are going to make another robot vacuum in the future, I think they should have one that can do mopping and connect up to a self-cleaning base station. Maybe even consider one of those ones that can refill and self-empty.
This is exactly what I mean when I say “user-accessible”. Ideally it could function like a drone and be responsive to voice commands via popular voice assistants (Google Home, Amazon Alexa, etc.): “Hey, Google, send Cam Vac to the kitchen to check on the pet fountain.” If Gemini and Wyze’s AI could “talk” to each other, maybe there would even be the potential to have it do a patrol sweep of a full floor in a home and prepare a summary only if it detects something out of the ordinary.
I’ve seen recent requests for one that mops, including in the Reddit AMA, though I haven’t seen those requests addressed. Self-emptying would be a major plus for the vacuuming piece.
Relevant to this topic and the AMA, I was disappointed to see this answer:

Hmm, that answer isn’t even true. I have used time lapse on my battery WCOs a lot. More than on any other camera model. I have even taken them hiking with me to tune 6 lapse the entire hike. I actually think it’s more useful on battery cameras than most of my wired cameras because I usually want to time lapse a specific project where I didn’t always want a camera, and it’s easier to move around and temp position battery cameras than wired ones.
Yikes. It’s one thing for an AI to misidentify things, but how do they arrest someone without watching the event first to know?
I think it was in FL when a twin was charged with fraud, after applying for a driver’s license. Apparently, the system’s facial recognition couldn’t differentiate between her photo and that of her twin.

With a solar-powered camera that can be expected to recharge itself during the day, that should be an ideal platform for construction sites, weather events, and all kinds of potential time lapse scenarios where a camera can temporarily “wake up” and snap a photo at a specified interval. This is not continuous recording, and I sorta get why they’re not allowing that when a Solar Cam Pan is being powered only by the battery and solar panel, but if they can allow a user to select Continuous microSD recording when it’s connected to an AC power adapter, then at least in that situation it’s no longer strictly a “battery-powered camera”, and it should have a Timelapse feature available.
Really, though, time lapse recording should be possible even on solar/battery power, and the app should be able to give the user sufficient warnings if a capture interval and/or time lapse duration is likely to be problematic when powered that way.

Installed new Solar Cam Pan today. Noticed when I open the Wyze app it does not come up in live view as all the others do. Is this by design or am I missing something?
I imagine you have Power Saving Mode enabled. Navigate from Solar Cam Pan’s Live Stream screen to Settings ➜ Power Manager ➜ Power Saving Mode (it’s in the Battery Life section) and toggle that off . The box on that screen tells you more about that feature, but I think turning it off will achieve the effect you’re seeking as long as you have sufficient sunlight to recharge the battery.

When it is on sola, the camera can record event videos to the SD card. Even when your WiFi is down, the camera will still detect and record events if a microSD card is inserted.
This is another reason I think Solar Cam Pan (and Battery Cam Pro) have a lot of potential to be useful for capturing time lapses and why I believe they should have this feature. If the device is expected to continue recording without Wi-Fi access, then this seems like it should be an ideal tool for capturing time lapses for construction sites, weather events, and other outdoor phenomena, provided the user chooses parameters (duration, capture frequency) that don’t over-tax the battery.
I have one, I recently installed it on the corner of a Lania that is around a pool, I was wanting the camera to pan tilt from one way point to the next then repeat like the wired pan tilt camera that I have. It appears that the camera movement from one way point to another is manual. The Follow a person feature does seem to work but since I had it on a corner I was trying to have my waypoints at 0 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees and 270 degrees. I am not sure that this camera will do what I was wanting it to do, but the AI on the site says it can cycle thru the waypoints, I checked that out before I purchased it
I’m not sure what prompt you gave the AI or what its response was, but my understanding is that Solar Cam Pan doesn’t have a Pan Scan feature like what you can enable on Cam Pan v3 or Cam Pan v4. I think that’s what you’re describing wanting to do. It does have a 360 Scan button (pan only, no tilt) for doing a one-time manual assessment of the area, but that’s not an ongoing movement between Waypoints. I imagine a true “Pan Scan” feature would hit the battery pretty hard and is probably excluded for the same reason Solar Cam Pan doesn’t do Continuous microSD recording unless it’s connected to 5V ⎓ 2A power. It’s not something I’d be likely to use, but it’d be kinda cool if it did have that capability as an option if the Cam sensed that it was receiving proper power to allow it.

That’s a welcome feature, but how does it know the date and time? Does the camera have a real time clock?
If there’s no RTC, does it stop calling ntp and use its internal clock instead?
