I hope it’s not going to be a similar fiasco like the Pan Cam V4

No continuous recording to micro SD on solar. What recording is possible?

The spec sheet further up says:

Q: Can I record continuously to a microSD card?
A: Yes, you can record continuously to a microSD card as long as the camera is connected to 5V/2A AC power.

The Pan Scan feature is nice but the solar is about the same as the current WBCP. My 4 units only need about an hour or so in the morning to recharge from 96 to 100%. What will be interesting is the difference the motors make.

Looks like a decent replacement for the WBCP.

Does the sun like to hideout for a while where you live? No worries. The built-in 6400mAh lithium-ion battery provides up to 6-months of standalone power.

Pardon? This immediately makes me not trust anything about this marketing, material or the product.

Just stop with the deliberately misleading marketing guys, it is a bad look.

A bit in wyze defense. These numbers are similar to the current WBCP. It has a ~7000mAh battery.

I have 4 of the WBCP’s. 3 are on solar. About 4 months ago I put the 1 non-solar on the side of the house. I was curious how long it would last. It actually surprised me. It died at about 3 1/2 months. This was a very low traffic area. Maybe the dog walking it 4 times a day and then a lot of activity on the weekend as the landscaping people went back and forth about a dozen times. I’m sure the same unit on the driveway (currently solar panelled) would only last a month.

Like any other value that marketing gets ahold of you have to take it as best case, lab conditions and a big grain of salt (and if they didn’t the competition would kill them) . I usually cut all their numbers in half (I don’t care the vendor, except high end test equipment and certification labs)

My 2 cents worth😊

Does this have a time lapse feature, or will it receive one with a future update as Cam Pan v4 is supposed to? This seems like it would be a good product for that sort of use, and maybe this question should be asked in the Reddit AMA.

I have solar panel that I use with one of my outdoor cams on back fence so similar to this.

I set it to event with 5 minutes of video. It has been running at close to 100% battery charge for over a year with sunny, cloudy and winter overcast weeks.. If I do change to continuous it runs down in a few days. I do not have details on how long … depends on the sun.

Using it appropriately as they describe, this is great.

Prospective buyers might want to stock up extra on the special solar panel when it gets released if you want the new Power Manager to continue to work.

What accessories does Wyze Solar Cam Pan work with?

Wyze Solar Cam Pan is compatible with:

  • The included solar panel

    • This solar panel only works with Wyze Solar Cam Pan.
  • Wyze Cam Universal Power Adapter

  • Wyze MicroSD Cards up to 32 GB FAT32/512 GB exFAT

  • Wyze Solar Panel

    • Only for backup charging purposes. It does not support data transmission and will not show data on the Power Manager page.

Goody, I bought another camera that I don’t really need.

Can I use my own USB cable to connect the solar panal to the cam? What I saw in specs said 2 feet USB C, and that’s not long enough to get around my overhang.

That’s the length of the USB-A to USB-C cable that you use with your own 5V ⎓ 2A power adapter for the initial battery charge. The Solar Panel itself has an integrated cable that terminates in a USB-C male connector and is ~10′ in length. Wyze really could do a much better job of making this clear on Solar Cam Pan’s product page and in the Help Center articles, so it’s good of you to ask! :+1:

A neat product. I have some use cases in mind.

Any one have any real experience using this solar pan cam?:cooking::camera:

How about a gutter mount? You could sell it as a Wyze accessory.

I have brought up gutter mounts a lot as well. I’m surprised they haven’t made one for their past products either. There was a third party company that was making some pretty good ones for a while.

Am I reading this correctly? Battery good for 6 months and is not replaceable? $80 for 6 months of use then discard?

If you do not use/connect the solar panel, you have a battery reserve to support up to 6 months of standalone use. Of course, that number (6 mo.) will vary depending on use.

Use the solar panel.

I am curious to learn how you find this new solar cam to work for you.

I have been leery of adding a motor to the camera, but I might be willing to take a chance if reviews are favorable.
