Wyze Scales - Why not qualified HSA/FSA?

I had planned on purchasing a newer Wyze Scale but was shocked to find I could not use my HSA card on Wyze or Amazon. Amazon does not have it flagged as a qualified HSA/FSA purchase (which is should be as it provides digital body measurements). The major competing scales that showed up as suggestions all qualify.

Is there a reason it doesn’t qualify? I’m sure I I could reimburse myself (Unless there’s something that legitimately disqualifies it)

@ToyzRUsKid1976,

I have had a similar thought on some items on Amazon. You can search on advil and only half the results are qualified.

Getting qualified is not trivial.

This may be an instance where Wyze may be looking at the market segment and determining it is not big enough. Or they may read your post and determine the market may be big enough.

Huh, I had no idea that my HSA could be used for something besides doctor/dentist visits and pharmaceuticals. I may have to look for more ways to use it now.

HSA has a bit more flexibility. Yes, there are a lot of medical items you can use it on. Check out FSA Store (And that’s without a doctor’s letter of necessity). Get a Dr to write a LoN and you’d be surprised what it covers…. like a LoN for routine exercise and you can use it for a gym membership.

FSA eligibility list is not frequently maintained. And generally speaking, as long as the category is eligible, you can get it reimbursed.

I personally never use the FSA debit card. I always use my personal card to earn cashback and find the best discount I can (that may not be available in FSA stores). And get it reimbursed later. I often get at least 10% -20% cashback/discount this way than straight using FSA card or use the FSA store.

Sure, it does run the risk of getting rejected. But under the previous service my employer used, I was able to purchase 2 massagers that technically require doctor’s note. And the current service they use seems to be pretty much full honor system and only randomly audited.
