Wyze Plug compatible with a recessed/clock outlet?

Is there a Wyze plug that can work with a recessed/clock outlet? We have a recessed plug above our fireplace to power a light for a piece of art. We’d like to have this art-light on our Wyze system, but the orientation of the Wyze plug is horizontal, while the outlet is vertical.

Welcome to the Forum, @michaeltnoonan!

Would you be willing/able to share a photo? That might help others to understand your situation and provide some guidance.

Here is an image of the outlet. The Wyze plug cannot work with it because of the orientation of the outlet. Would Wyze ever create a plug that could work with a vertically oriented recessed outlet?

The image is helpful, and I see what you mean. Thanks for sharing that! :+1:

I have no idea. I know there are some Wishlist requests relating to Plug improvements, but I don’t recall seeing anyone ask for anything like that. I’m currently using three different brands of smart plugs, and all three have that wide horizontal orientation (when the standard outlet is installed in the typical vertical fashion). One exception that comes to mind (and which I’m not using) is some of the Govee smart plugs, which are round (and probably other brands offer a similar form factor, but that’s one I recall seeing), but I don’t know if the diameter of something like that would exceed the recessed width of your wall plate. I say that understanding that you also might not be interested in adding another manufacturer’s ecosystem to your smart home environment, but it’s one of my initial thoughts when looking at this outlet.

Depending on your situation (where the art is going to hang, how much space you can allow between the art and the wall, whether or not the outlet is controlled by a switch [I’m guessing not on this last one, especially if the outlet is intended specifically for a clock], etc.), you might have some options like using an outlet adapter or very short extension cord to consume the depth so that you can connect a Wyze Plug at that location, but if you’re going to have space at that portion of the wall that will accommodate a Wyze Plug’s size and that’s what you want to use, then a better option might be just to replace the outlet itself with one that’s flush to the wall.

It’s an interesting problem, and I think there are a number of ways to tackle it, some of which may not involve a Wyze Plug. :man_shrugging:

Nice pull. Maybe it was Geeni plugs I’d seen before. I knew the brand started with a “G”, and Govee also makes smart plugs in that form factor, so I went with that, though I haven’t personally used either brand.

The round plugs are 2 inches in diameter. They won’t fit in that space.

This?

So many “G” plugs! I think the kind I tried to recall earlier were the Geeni plugs that @WildBill mentioned and not the Govee plugs I initially noted.

Thank you very much for giving this challenge I’m faced with some thought. The ideas and information Crease, WildBill and P2788deal have shared are very helpful.
