Wyze Pan Cam V3 serious issues

Wyze Cam Pan V3
Disappointing Performance and Poor Support
I’m really frustrated with my recent experience with the Wyze Cam Pan V3. At first, I was excited about the potential of these cameras, but they’ve quickly turned into a major disappointment.
The Issues:

  • Frequent Malfunctions: The cameras often miss recordings or stop working altogether.
  • Poor Support: I’ve reached out to support multiple times, but the solutions provided haven’t been effective.
As a disabled individual, returning or repairing these cameras is a significant challenge. I’m really hoping the company can offer a more practical solution.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues with the Wyze Cam Pan V3? If so, how did you resolve them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My Pan v3s have been very reliable. Maybe you got a defective unit and just need to push for a replacement?

Do you have more info on the malfunctions or what you mean by “stop working all together”? It could simply be a poor wifi signal or internet connection issue which would impact your live stream and also cloud recordings/events.

It’s definitely strange that all three of my Wyze Cam Pan V3 cameras started having issues around the same time. At first, they began experiencing problems with panning and tilting. However, they’ve now completely stopped working.
I’ve tried troubleshooting these issues by:

  • Using different power outlets and power packs
  • Trying different USB cables
  • Resetting the cameras
  • Checking the firmware
Despite these efforts, the cameras still won’t turn on. It seems like a hardware issue rather than a software issue.

They don’t get any LED light or do the “power up calibration dance”? If all 3 of them have no power, the only thing I can think that would cause that is some sort of power surge or event. Sometimes that just fries the adapters, but if big enough it will pass through to the connected device.

When you tried a different USB power adapter, did you use one rated for 1500MA or higher? Try one that has never been used before with the cams, even a cell phone charger etc, as long as it is 1500MA or higher.

I think the chances of all 3 of yours being defective are slim. (Not zero, but unlikely.)

I’m guessing you already checked this, but is the WiFi connection stable? Not necessarily fast, but stable with a sufficiently strong signal. The WiFi router placement is important for all of your devices. It can be attenuated by walls & floors, especially in older-constructed homes like mine. I had to place mine high and centered in the upstairs closet in my house for better results.

RF interference from microwave ovens, cordless phones, rotating motors, etc., can also affect the signal. Anecdotally I have other-brand cams and other smart devices that are momentarily knocked out by my microwave. Though that hasn’t been as much of an issue recently, and I don’t recall any of my Wyze devices being affected.

Good Luck,
Raj

Pan Cam V3s really need a strong signal. Mine work without issues now, but in the beginning I had a hard making them work. I even installed a V3 right beside one to compare; the V3 worked without any hiccup but the pan had issues.

For Cam Pan v3, I’d look for something that puts out at least 2 A. I think this camera model has a higher power requirement because of the motors. The product page says this:

Power Adapter Output: 5V/2000mA

What I see when I look at an original Cam Pan v3 power adapter is “OUTPUT:5V ⎓ 2000mA”.

I used to live in a home where the room with the ISP gateway/WAP was directly below the kitchen, and I didn’t have a particularly easy way to get around that, so it kind of became practice in the household for someone to shout “MICROWAVE!” whenever that appliance was about to see use, and everyone within earshot would just expect their devices to drop offline for a minute.:grin:

@superdave92873, more detail about your experience might be helpful. You asked…

…and you said…

More description about how you’re trying to use the cameras (physical setting: indoor/outdoor, exposure to elements, relative distance to WAP for Wi-Fi signal strength, using an excessively-long power cable; whether or not you’re recording to microSD or using a subscription; etc.) might help others in the community to narrow the troubleshooting focus. I think making sure they have adequate power seems like a good first step, though.

Agreed, the power adapter should be 5v/2A(2000ma). I solved the issues I was experiencing by creating an automation(rule) to restart the 2 cam pan v3s I have in operation every morning. Working good for the past year.

@crease @peacefrog_0521 @fmills1d yes for long term use use 2A or higher, I just mentioned 1500 as I’ve tested one of mine with that, and it worked fine just to see if it was working or not. Should have clarified it was only for testing. Obviously if you have a 2A or greater one handy, use that for the test.
