Wyze Palm Lock mixed bag

I just bought two of the new Palm Locks and installed the first one today. I was very excited to get them and while I remain optimistic about them I’ve encountered some disconcerting “gotchas“ I sincerely hope will be addressed. If not, I’m not sure I’m keeping them despite their definite pluses.

Here are my preliminary thoughts:

Installation is standard and if you’re replacing another deadbolt should be fairly routine. One thing I did not realize, however, is the fact that this is a deadbolt only and has no handle mechanism at all.

My previous lock was a code access combination deadbolt and open/close lever handle. I probably should have noticed the absence of a knob or lever on the pictures but didn’t put 2+2 together so as it stands if the door is unlocked there’s nothing holding it shut. I found some simple lever latches at Home Depot without a locking mechanism.

The setup was surprisingly straightforward and the palm recognition worked flawlessly. At least for now all that seems to work as advertised. So if we stopped there it would be a winner.

Here are a few of the things I encountered as I got deeper into integrating it with my 3 Pan/Scan V3 cameras and Video Doorbell pro.

  1. I have a big house and a garage with 4-5 doors with which I want to have a common interface for access control. Unfortunately I just saw a 2 lock maximum per account. Thats a real problem and seems to be nothing more than an insulting money grab. I already have a Cam Unlimited subscription and I’ll be damned if I’m going to double that cost to add 2 or 3 additional locks, which I need to have. I would accept—although not happily—a modest extra cost for additional locks but that needs to happen quickly because I want to equip the entire house and have only a limited amount of time to return these and get something else. Wyze: that’s really ugly.

  2. The FAQs say you can unlook the door from within the video feed of the doorbell but like another user wrote several months ago with respect for the deadbolt lock, although the lock shows up as an accessory for the doorbell, you can’t actually select it so that doesn’t work. Wyze???

  3. The lock does not show up in the app as a device for which I can get push notifications , much less choose the events for which I want to be notified. I can andd shortcuts to lock and unlock but get no notifications if someone is attempting to unlock it. Only the cameras show up in those lists (and the app and firmware is all up to date). That’s really a serious problem because I have no way to know who is coming or going, or whether the door was opened or closed, etc. That’s a real security issue.

    UPDATE: All of a sudden I am getting push notifications from the lock. Don’t know what changed but I’m glad to see that.

  4. I also noticed the lock can easily jam if the deadbolt isn’t precisely lined up with the jam. That’s another notification I should get. UPDATE: That is now among the notifications I received

These are just a few preliminary things I noticed right away. I will update this as I live with the product. Anyone else have similar problems?

Can you provide a link to where you are seeing this?

Can you provide screen shots of what you are seeing. I have mine added to the Doorbell and it works without issues

Thanks

@kennybroh

I just got a confirmation that you can add many locks. So you can add 5 locks, or more, to one account, but only 50 palms can be stored.

The article is not correct and is being updated
