I have a Wyze gateway lock that I cannot use because it came with the house I bought. It’s attached to something else’s account and I was told by Wyze support I cannot reset it without getting it removed from the old account.
I decided it’s probably easier to just buy a new one, but the keypad is sold separately and is out of stock. Does anyone know if I can use the old keypad with a new deadbolt lock?
I don’t have the Wyze Lock, but your post made me curious about a factory reset, so I looked this up:
Since this was already installed when you bought the house, I wonder if getting the previous owner to release the Lock from his/her Wyze account would’ve been a condition of sale and/or if you can get that accomplished through your realtor. My understanding of the Help Center article (and maybe you’ve already read it and thought this, too) is that if you attempted a factory reset (and I’m not even finding instructions for this), then you wouldn’t be able to set it up with your own Wyze account and the device would still be stuck on the previous owner’s Wyze account, so it seems like something the previous owner might want to delete from his/her account, anyway.
Once paired to your account, Wyze Lock cannot be setup to a different account unless you remove it first.
I would guess that’s possible based on what I’m seeing in the Help Center, though I’d probably confirm that with Support, and part of the reason for my commenting (since I don’t have an answer) is to bump your topic for visibility. I’m also going to ask for it to be re-categorized and re-tagged to help with that, because Tips & Tricks is generally for sharing advice with other community members.
You’re welcome. I wish I could be more help. I asked the Moderators again about recategorizing your topic to get it better visibility, because I think it belongs in Home instead of Tips & Tricks.
