Wyze Garage Door Controller - First Impression

Thanks for this. It helps. Just got mine today. Where can I find an outlet like that?

So what If I take a pic of the QR code. Will it open the door? What if I dont want the door to open when I pull up my driveway?

No, taking a photo won’t open your door.
No, pulling up in your driveway does not open your door.

I bought this instead…
It’s cheaper, easiest to install, and the USB outlets are independently controlled.

Got mine today…Wondering…If I move then I would need to remove the sticker. If it breaks…where do I order a replacement? Wyze Support does not seem to have an answer. Maybe there is no answer. Maybe I should have scanned it, printed, and taped the copy so that I can latter rip it off when I move.

Thanks for the pics. The outlet is a great idea!!!

You can still take a photo of it, print it, and tape the copy up at your next garage…
It just says “wyze.com/g

Thanks. Not a bad price (as long as it works). Just what will the smart plug do for the opener? If there is no power, there’s no power. So the opener motor won’t work. Just wondering the though process.

I was initially tempted to do that, but there is another controller (Nexx NXG-200) for another garage door, on the same circuit, and if I flip the breaker, I also cut the power to that. Unfortunately, I found out when we really lost power not long after installing both the opener and the controller, if power is cut to the Nexx, I have to climb the ladder to reset it. So flipping the breaker is not a good solution in my case.

Txa… Well, it was just a thought. Did you see the plug in one that someone posted today? Simple installation and each usb port has it’s own fifi control. I have a three way plug in the ceiling outlet at the garage door controller. I just might get one of these to replace it.

That old “15 feet in the air” makes me want to do as little as possible with this stuff, so the single Wyze Plug still sounds like the best idea.

As I said previously, I just replaced a garage door opener. The new one has built-in wi-fi, so no need for another controller. However, what it also has is the built-in safety that won’t allow the garage door to close if something breaks the light beam at around 4 inches from the floor across the entirety of the door opening. From what I understand, this is another one of those absolutely required features for all openers now. It really wasn’t fun to not only place the sensors, but run the wiring, but the door opener WOULD NOT FUNCTION WITHOUT THIS. All the talk about safety for the Wyze controller seems to be forgetting this feature. The opener will not close if there is something breaking the beam - period.

When there’s no power, nothing will function, that’s true. But in the event the WyzeCam loses its internet connection, I can power cycle it. Wyzecams don’t often get confused, but it has happened (I have 19 Wyze cams, so it’s not all that rare), and I don’t want that to happen while I am away and the garage door is open. Being able to reboot the controller is an extra layer of reliability.

“The opener will not close if there is something breaking the beam - period.”

There are other places you can get pinched by the door besides where the beam is, like the tracks, the actuator, a light bulb socket you might be replacing without turning off the power, standing under the door but not breaking the beam, etc… …and if it isn’t functioning correctly.

It’s just an additional layer of safety: “Be aware, the door is about to try to close”

Which USB Smart Plug did you use (Lumary?), and any issues with it?

Just got my Garage Door Controller replacement part kit. I already have a v3 camera which I was planning to use but the box has a strong warning that you MUST use the camera that comes with the full kit. The instal instructions say that if you use a camera with the flat USB cable then it must not be mounted closer than three feet to the garage door opener itself. I guess there is a noise interference issue and the newer camera has a round USB cable presumably with better shielding. Wyze support seemed unaware of it and issued a refund for the replacement part kit and advised me to purchase the complete kit with a camera. I am not happy about TWO $5.99 shipping charges or having to buy an extra camera. A little more explanation would have been helpful. Jeff

Yes, and no issues. I have a couple of these I have been using since 9/21.

I’ve installed mine and put a review on Amazon (not sure why but I was there) but have a question/comment.
I used the Wyze outdoor outlet to plug in my garage cam in order to reboot if needed. Because, yes, Wyze Cams seem to need that on occasion.
Question re. QR code sticker. Peeled mine and stuck to door (high) and it was pretty fragile. I doubt I could peel it and move it. I suggest just taking it as is (with the backing) and taping in 4 corners. Did you peel yours or use as is?

A kid could be playing in the garage with hand in rollers or trying to get his hot wheels car to fit into track. Not likely but…
The flashing light and announcement will give them time to get safe. Maybe.
It is just another level of warning.

I created a rule that if I was 500 ft from the house and left the garage door open it would close it. I closed the door when I left and at the end of the block my phone dinged and I saw it had opened my garage door

I have a wood door that doesn’t seem very sticky, so I masked around the corners, sprayed a touch of Super 77 in each corner, and stuck the QR sheet to that, it seems durable. I also stored a copy in case I ever need another target.
