Apparently they didn’t secure wyze.us either. Apparently they did buy wyze.ai as a redirect though. I was kind of expecting they didn’t do that one either. Probably had a domain scalper get wyze ca and decided it’s not worth paying the blackmail fee as long as it’s not being used.
I was once involved in negotiations to purchase a three-letter dot com domain - i.e. XYZ.com
The agreed price was about US$40K - which was fair. The owner had a legitimate claim to the domain, but was not making much use of it. Domain squatters can sometimes be dislodged - I’m sure others have more experience but there is an appeal process
As to copyright infringement - some cases are obvious but often it’s just who has more money and lawyers

I was surprised to find excitableboy dot com available in the early web days and thought to buy it and give it to Zevon but never did.
