Wyze for sale?

Looks like Wyze Canada domain is for sale. I was trying to get on Wyze’s Canadian site when I got redirected to Bodis’s domain sales platform. Any thoughts?

You’re following the wrong link. Correct link is: https://ca.wyze.com/

I guess they couldn’t secure wyze.ca so they went with ca.wyze.com

It’s funny you’d mention that, because just a few days ago I had the same experience when preparing a response to a post in another topic where the user reported being in Canada. Since the user mentioned “searching the Wyze site”, I thought, “Okay, it’s gotta be wyze.ca,” so that’s what I put into the browser. Nope.

That surprised me, too. You’d think they’d want to secure ownership of that domain, if only for reputation protection or something.

Maybe Wyze can take them to court?

My friend’s dad had a company that sold floor tile in Jamaica called Jam Pearl. He bought the domain jampearl.com. Pearl Jam the band sent him him a notice he was in violation of copyright laws. He terminated the domain.

Exactly my thought, like all the big players in every industry. One comes to mind, apple.com and apple.ca

Not if they were first to use the name.

What they did is wrong on so many levels. First of all, your dad’s business is not even in the same industry as the band. If your father wanted to take it to court, he would’ve won as there is nothing there about copyright infringement.

EDIT: Sorry, I just realized that it wasn’t your dad, but your dad’s friend

I liked the 90s them when they were flipping the :bird: to TICKETMISER.

Wasn’t worth the money or effort. Playboy sued and won against someone who registered Boyplay.com. Or so I read on the internet. I see you can now buy it. I am not interested.

That’s what they count on.

Deeper pockets and not a very good lawyer.

Too bad my friend didn’t hire you to fight his case.

Nah, I’m not a lawyer but I know a very good one who specializes in copyright law. Never know when I might need him being in the visual arts business myself.

Years ago there used to be a company in St…Louis called Tomco that sold carburetor overhaul kits. Was my preferred vendor because every little gasket and seal was in the kit along with instructions and pictorials on how to adjust every setting.

There was also a Tomco Carburetor that sold rebuilt carburetors,

I knew Buzz Thompson, the owner of Tomco and asked him how the other Tomco was able to use that name given it was a nearly identical type of company.
Apparently since Tomco sold only kits and no carburetors, and Tomco Carbuetor sold only carburetors and no kits, there was nothing either could do.

Actually that is a trademark infringement as both businesses were in the same line of business, automotive. In my opinion none of them were willing to ruffle any feathers.
