So tonight my Wyze Floodlight came on and I got a notification but it didn’t record anything. I only know the floods came on because another camera caught the lights from its view point. This has happened numerous times since I’ve had this product. I’ve checked the settings and it’s supposed to record, so why didn’t it?
Which Floodlight model?
Just to clarify, you have it set to record ALL motion, not smart detections?
Did you review the SD card recording of when it happened and see if you can tell what triggered the Floodlight?
If it’s one of the floodlights with a PIR sensor, there are varying settings which may potentially limit events to only happen when both pixel change and PIR are both triggered, while having the floodlight turn on with just one or the other.
There’s also a chance that the Floodlight tried to upload an event, but did not succeed in doing so for a number of possible reasons.
If it’s a Floodlight Pro, has it uploaded events earlier that same day and since it had that issue? There was a weird issue I experienced twice in the last year where a couple of my FLPros suddenly stopped doing events for several days in a row and I had to either restart them or in one case I had to factory reset them, and then found a couple of other people with that issue. I just checked and none of my 6 FLPros are doing that right now though. But if you have a FLPro, I would recommend potentially restarting it just to make sure.
It’s the first version of the Floodlight. Yes, it’s set to record all motion events. There is no SD card in that camera. On the event recording page in settings, Record Motion Events and Detected by PIR Sensor is toggled on. As I’m writing this it happened yet again, the Floods came on but nothing was recorded. So I walked in front of the Floodlight and the lights came on and it recorded me, so should record the motion. If something is triggering the event, like a bug, it should still have recorded the event but it’s not. And I have all my cameras, including this Wyze Floodlight set to automatically reboot once a week.
OMG, it just happened again! What is going on with this thing?! Okay so I’m turning off the PIR detection and see what it does.
Just happened again, this time with no notification or recording. I’m about ready to rip that thing down! I can’t have it constantly lighting up all night long.
I just saw a post from a user on a different platform saying the same thing is happening to them with the FLv2. They said the reset the camera and it worked for a few hours then stopped again.
Maybe there is something going on with Floodlights. I’ll keep an eye out.
Are you on the latest firmware?
There was a known bug with V3 cams not recording all the events. They tried to fix it in the latest firmware, but I heard a couple of people report that they are still experiencing the issue.
Well, today it did it several more times and of course didn’t record anything. What the heck is going on all of a sudden? I’m starting to think it’s from this new app causing the issues. I had to turn it off, can’t have it flashing on and off all through the night. Maybe this week I’ll remove it and install the Pro version I have, hopefully it won’t do this. But I really think this new app is the cause because it has screwed up a lot of things.
This happened to my first Wyze floodlight. It flashed randomly. Fortunately I had a switch for it and turned it off. Happened during the first week so I was able to return it.
Mine did the same thing two years ago when I first got it and had it replaced. Since it is a floodlight there is a wall switch, which I turned off now. But all house porch lights have a wall switch. So I’m not sure what you meant. Anyway, now that it is doing it again, it could also be that the hardware is failing, which doesn’t say much for Wyze’s lasting quality. An outdoor light/camera setup should be more robust and last a long, long time.
I have a floodlight V2 in front of my garage with no switch. I have to go to the main panel if I have to power cycle it.
Ah, so you don’t even have external garage lights where the V2 is mounted?
The floodlight V2 replaced the old-style floodlight that was installed during a renovation. It was all done by a licensed electrical contractor with city permit/inspection. I don’t know why there is no switch.
Seems odd that a floodlight was installed during the renovation and didn’t have it’s own switch. A licensed electrical contractor should have known better. How else was that floodlight supposed to be turned on and off? I’d get a switch put in for that circuit.
But I really think I need to install my Wyze Pro Floodlight to replace this one. Just not looking forward to getting the ladder out and all that stuff. I’m not as young as I used to be. lol
I know that there used to be a type of floodlight that needed to be turned on/off. But this was already the dusk-to-dawn, motion-activated type and didn’t really need a switch.
It’s the type with a switch on the IR sensor.
Last night my Wyze Floodlight came on for maybe 15 seconds and didn’t record anything, another one of my cameras recorded the light. Probably about time to replace it with the Floodlight Pro that I’ve had for a while now.
Did you check if it’s a V1?
I took it out of the box when I first got it, it’s the right camera.
Just kidding. I like my floodlight pro. Except for its color night vision. Hopefully the new firmware fixes it.
I knew you were ribbing me. lol. The color night vision doesn’t work right? Wait, another product that doesn’t do what Wyze advertised it does. No way. But seriously, how is the AI? My first gen Floodlight would tag an event as a vehicle when no vehicles are in its view. I swear their AI has a fetish for vehicles.
