Wyze Doorbell won't reinstall

My doorbell stopped working. I tried reconnecting it but it says the QR code is invalid. I deleted the device from the wyze app and tried to reinstall it but it says the same thing. QR code is invalid. Restarted Wi-Fi and reset camera still nothing.

Wyze changed the format of the QR code - that is, they changed the information that’s encoded in it. If your Camera uses an older version of the Wyze firmware, such as 4.25.0.233, but you are using a newer version of the app (on your phone), then the installation process will not complete. I’m not aware of any fix for this problem. It’s unclear how Wyze would address this. Perhaps you can get ahold of an older version of the app?

I faced the same problem when ordering a refurbished camera online that came with 4.25.0.233.
I personally overcame it by removing the root password of the camera, logging in via the UART, and helping it complete the installation process where it got stuck by writing the correct wpa_supplicant.conf file manually. Once there, I was able to use the vendor app to upgrade the firmware. (The vendor process reads your WiFi access credentials from the QR code and sets up the Linux OS on the device to connect to your WiFi, but this process is broken if you have the firmware/app mismatch.)

There exist alternative firmwares for the doorbell such as Thingino but they do not yet provide all of the same functionality as the vendor’s and require a bit of tinkering.
