Wyze Camera notification sound

Unfortunately, we no longer have notification categories as seen in MovieNut’s most recent screenshot of his Wyze app notification settings.

I have all notification categories on all of my Android phones and tablets. If you state your phone model, operating system version and Wyze app version, someone here should be able to assist or we can at least better report a possible bug to Wyze.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, One UI Version 6.1, and Android Version 14, and my Wyze app is running 3.1.0(564).
Below is the screenshot of the Wyze notification settings via the Apps menu in Settings on my Samsung, and screenshots of the notification setting screens in the Wyze app directly.

That is odd.

I see notification categories on my s24, but not on my S21. Both are on Andriod 14 oui 6.1. One UI 6.11 should come out in a few days. Surprised I don’t see notification categories on my S21.

S24…

Other apps have loads of options…

I asked / complained about the same thing several months ago.
I was sleeping through the default notification sounds. My wife said what good is the notification if it doesn’t wake you?
I then proceeded to find a sound that I do not think anyone could ignore.
I asked the forum which of the Wyze categories was the one triggered when motion or Intruder was detected and nobody knew.
I think there was only 2 at the time. Now we have 3 and I have set all to the same annoying siren.

Back to the technical;
I have Samsung S9 with Android 10 and the Wyze App v3.1.0.564.
Here is the current choices in the App Info Notifications

3 options with the sane name? WTF
I have set all to the same sound.

So now I get the same sound when new features or they decide to Spam with sales or promotional garbage as well as when Motion is triggered on camera.

If anyone can tell me which of the 3 options is the one for the Motion Alert from Camera, I would appreciate it.

With my two Wyse message options on, I received movement alerts. Not sure why I have two dupes and you have 3 dupes and more.

What Android version are you on?

I guess we are both on 564?

Android version may not matter since both of my phones are on the latest Android 14 and they act different.

I put that in the line below '“Back to the technical”

Thanks. I definitely missed that.

Wonder what decides on which notification categories you get?

I read somewhere on the Forum that there’s a different “WyzeMessage” entry for each of the app sounds (“Wyze Sound 1”, “Wyze Sound 2”, etc.), and I’m no developer, but that seems like a weird way to do it if it’s true. To my way of thinking, it makes more sense to classify according to Android Notification Channels, like in this Wishlist topic:

I believe this is not a Wyze issue. Android introduced a manage Notification Category option. This option needs to be turned on so that each app can control their own notifications. Here is a link I just posted about it:

Here is my phone screenshot for Wyze notification on Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, One UI 5.1, Android version 13, Wyze App v3.1.0 (564).

Depending on how often you update your app, you might see 1 to 3 “WyzeMessage”. Changing the sound on the first “WyzeMessage” should change the notification sound.

I agree, you can actually have up to 4 Wyze Messages. The Phone Default App, Wyze Sound 1, Sound 2, and Sound 3. Depending on what you have selected that will be the link to the notification WyzeMessage Sound. To get all 4 sounds to be in the Notification area, simply select each sound and cause a notification.

With that said, those who do not see any WyzeMessages and cannot get into the notification categories for the Wyze App, it is probably because it has not been enabled as stated in the link I provided above. When I turn off that option you will see this:

Notice there is no Category or sound options at all.

I see. That seems to be a new specific setting for One UI 6.1.

One more tip for other users, if you freshly install the Wyze App (uninstall and install again) then you won’t see “WyzeMessage” in the Notification Categories until you receive a notification first. Afterwards, it will appear and you can change the sound.

Thanks, This option was not turned on. I did not need it turned on in the past, but with the recent Wyze update this is necessary to reinstate the ability to see the Notification options. I now see 4 “WyzeMessage” options, a “General” option and a "Notifications Manager " option. I think the 2nd “WyzeMessage” option is for Camera detected either motion or Person.

I removed my previous data in this post as I found it more beneficial to uninstall the app and reinstall it. I now only have one “WyzeMessage” category. I found that if you change the in app Wayze notificatons, it creates an additional category. I was up to 5 .

This and the subsequent discussion with @grapefruityoda are excellent information, and I wonder if it accounts for the discrepancy described by @ssummerlin and/or if it’s applicable to @jjade’s situation with OxygenOS from another topic. I had no idea this existed in some Android variants, because I prefer and tend to use a stock/near-stock Android experience. I also wonder how many other users are frustrated by their ignorance of this setting, because I’m certain that I would’ve been! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, I kept getting MORE Notifications categories (started with 4) then 5. Uninstalled the app and reinstalled and now only have one “WyzeMessage” category.

Wow that is bright. I am blinded by just reading your post.

I wonder how I can get the General and Notification Manage option.

Yes. S24 had the setting turned on while the S21 did not.

I used to keep the app on vibrate notifications only, no sound. Now the app keeps making sounds and i didnt make any changes. Started happening 9/9. Looks like vibrate only isnt an option anymore.
