Wyze Cam V4 SD card playback stutters every second of play back

The playback from every camera does this. I have V4s and V3pros. I buy the SD cards from Wyze to make sure they are ok. I also bought a Wyze WiFi router to make sure I have an excellent connection. I have Gigabit Fiber for internet. This is extremely frustrating. Is this a firmware issue? Do I need to reformat the SD cards periodically or something? I even thought maybe it was writing to the card, and reading at the same time. So, I disabled SD recording and the issue was still present. I am at a loss. Any suggestions or a fix would be appreciated.

Unfortunately Wyze SD cards and routers are not anything special, they definitely do not guarantee any sort of better performance or compatibility.

What you’re describing sounds like a connectivity issue, but possibly could be your app/viewing device. Seems unlikely it would be the SD cards, though there certainly could have been a poor batch (they’re just rebranded middle of the road cards).

If all of the cameras are doing it, I’d suspect more the router or your phone. When you ask if you have to reformat the cards, does it go away for a while after you do that? If that’s the case, then maybe the Wyze SD cards aren’t keeping up after all. Do you have another brand card around that you can try and see if it is any different?

I will try reformatting. I do have other cards yes and will try. I have iPads and an iPhone, both of the iPads and the iPhone all exhibit the same issue. It has been very frustrating!

The problem persists after formatting the cards.

Did you format it in the camera or in a PC using the sdcard.org utility? Did you try a different brand card?

If you’ve tried all that, perhaps something to do with your wifi, though I’d expect live view and other stuff to have issues in that case.

It is so frustrating. I have been in IT for 25 years. I have formatted the cards in camera and out. I have a few different brands. I am testing a TAPO camera with a cheaper card. It has no issues. And for the past 24 hours, the cameras have huge issues with connections, the web view is totally trashed and does not work at all and the list goes on. On the stopping ever second or so, I think it to do with how the files are stored on the SD cards. They are not one continuous file, but rather little snips all spliced together for playback. These issues have continued to get worse and cheaper cameras are doing a better job. I am so disappointed. :frowning: Things used to work so much better. My wifi is just fine. I have tested and tested. Always getting perfect signal and fast with no latency. Even got the Wyze one to try to help. I hope they fix it soon, I have always been a supporter of this company. I like the culture they claim to have. But I need reliable functionality.

That’s totally normal, you won’t find any camera like this that doesn’t do that, I’m sure your Tapo does it too. Otherwise one power blip and you’ve lost all footage, not just one minute of it, and playback and searching would be incredibly slow and useless. It doesn’t explain the stuttering.

There is no way for you to test that from the camera, and I doubt you have “perfect signal”. You’d need specialized equipment to determine that, and even then it won’t show you what the camera is “seeing”.

Those sound like connectivity issues, wifi, internet, etc.

Wyze router? That won’t help anything, probably the opposite.

You’re the only one reporting this issue that I’ve seen, so it will be hard for them to fix something they don’t know about. Have you contacted support, submitted logs, etc?

Yes, I have. My testing with Tapo is going very well. No playback issues whatsoever. No disconnection issues at all. I have not given up though.

I have the exact same issue. Gig fiber on a ubiquiti mesh WiFi. Seeing it on all of my v4s and doorbell cam, as well as my pancam which is in the same room as the router. Not seeing the issue on my V2 which is farthest from the router. Reformatting sd card in the camera doesn’t help. Clearing the Wyze app cache doesn’t help. I turned off motion tagging and smart focus suggested elsewhere no change.

I’m facing the EXACT same problem as OP has reported. Brand new Wyze v4 cams. SD card playback of continuous recording is stuttering a lot (every 2 secs). Hard to say if it’s a playback issue or recording issue.

  • SD card: SanDisk 256GB High Endurance.
  • Router: Deco WiFi 6E Tri-Band AXE5400 (no wifi issues)
  • Other cameras working fine: 2 Ring floodlight cameras (wired) and 2 Eufy cameras (playing back recorded events from these cameras has no issues)

Formatted sd card. Rebooted camera. Issue persists.

If you pull the SD card and put it in a PC is the playback smooth? Would help narrow down if recording is bad or playback. Could be a dud camera.

Also did you do any special formatting on the card? You want exFAT on it (the default), FAT32 can’t handle 256G very well, especially with lots of files (which the cam does, new file for ever 1 minute of recording).

Lastly, where did you get the card - Sandisk has a lot of fakes out there. Shipped from/sold by Amazon should be fine as long as it doesn’t arrive with a white sticker with barcode on it (which means they gave you one from a 3rd party seller’s stock). Any reputable retail store (online or brick and mortar) should be fine too, as long as it isn’t from their 3rd party seller network.

Same. Stutters on playback of SD card footage.

This along with your other post about events not being tagged makes me lean towards a connectivity issue, poor wifi signal or interference, etc. If you’re using smart detections, those have to upload to the wyze server in a certain amount of time to be analyzed and log an event, which it seems like yours aren’t either.
