I just got the notification that new firmware is available (4.52.17.19) but every time i try to install it on my 4 cameras it just does not go thru, the message on the fw page just shows updating but never completes. Anyone else seen this? I also did get a firmware update for the flood light pro which installed properly.
The last few updates I have not had the multi update work and have had to go into each camera’s device info and update them one at a time.
I did five V4 cams yesterday one at a time no issues at all.
Here to report the last few updates require 1-by-1 updating by going into the camera itself.
Don’t update from the Mass Update page.
It will update if you do that.
I’d recommend avoiding any sort of “mass update” regardless. You don’t want to stress 2.4ghz wifi with several parallel updates, and best to update one at a time and make sure all is well before doing the next one anyway.
Modern Mesh WiFi can handle it just fine. I have Ubiquity S7 Pro’s that can handle several hundred connections. I have ALWAYS mass updated since owning these cameras. Even with older WiFi routers. Never had an issue doing updates. I could do it why my computer was backing up… TV streaming Netflix… all the while cameras are updating events. No noticeable impact to the network for 20 cameras. The worst thing that would happen is the cameras take longer to update. They don’t collectively overwhelm the network. Impossible for them to do so.
I wouldn’t really have any concern with my setup either but many people have a single router or cheap mesh system that doesn’t have much actual available bandwidth. Really no reason to take the risk in my opinion.
It is definitely possible for them to saturate the network and especially on wifi (shared medium like a hub), if there are enough dropped packets and/or delay, it definitely could cause a problem. Generally I never update firmware over wifi but obviously with wifi only devices, not really any choice.
I’m curious what you mean by risk?
A busy network is just that, a busy network. There is no inherent ‘risk’ other than things taking longer. TCP/IP has latency and time-out built into the protocol so taking longer than normal is a non-issue for anything trying to update.
In fact, the only thing I’ve ever seen overwhelm (or Denial of Service) my network is if I download anything on BitTorrent. That protocol takes over the network and prevents a LOT of things from talking. It’s not bandwidth though.
If you saturate your 2.4ghz bandwidth to the point that there is excessive packet loss and the firmware update times out, I have every reason to believe a cheap IOT device could potentially be bricked. Have seen it happen even with decent routers when someone tries to update firmware over wifi. In fact if you hammer your wireless enough, it can even cause clients to disconnect and reconnect, and that’s going to almost guarantee a bricked cam.
That’s not really true. Yes, TCP has some congestion mitigation mechanisms built in, but at a certain point a timer expires or a buffer fills and it will drop. Add onto that the shared TDM nature of wifi and cheap devices with very little buffer, and you are asking for trouble.
Bittorrent is a combination of TCP and UDP. If not bandwidth preventing the talking, what is it?
By all means, you’re welcome to update however you want, my personal recommendation is to do one at a time, for a number of reasons, network congestion being one of them.
@WyzeJasonJ Have they released and then once again pulled this update? I had six cameras all trying to update and they would all fail. Now after several hours this morning I look and none of them are showing the update available anymore except one that thinks it’s still trying to update but isn’t there yet.
All of my active v4’s updated yesterday without any issues. I have a couple more packaged inactive but setup that I did not attempt to update. Maybe I’ll take 1 and see if the fw update message pops up. I don’t see anything under Wyze News in the Forum that the fw update has been paused.
The one I said was still trying to update is now showing up to date, (on 4.52.9.6119)
The iether paused it, or pulled it from my cams, but none of my v4s show the new version.
Interested to see if your inactive one shows up as having this new update available.
I saw that there is already a new beta available for 3s and 4s, and I went back into the beta program to see if they would show avail, and they aren’t showing any beta updates avail iether.
All my cameras still show the prior update as the most recent one. I’d wager they pulled the new one and will release in batches in the coming days
Typically when WYZE pulls or pauses a firmware update they let us know on their release notes page. I just checked and it appears that the latest set of firmware updates are still being pushed out.
With that said, I have no explanation as to why people in this thread that once saw updates available are no longer seeing the update.

Well now that there is a beta that says that it addresses a problem with recording continuously to the SD card, I would hold off anyway
I received a prompt on my Android phone to update the V4 … I cancelled since I wanted to update later … but later when I went to the V4 Firmware page it did not offer the update to v4.52.17.19.
The next day I received a prompt on my iPad to update the V4 and I accepted … the update processed OK.
I looked and this is still in the gradual release phase from the info I have, about 50%. I am checking to make sure that has not changed and will let you know what I find out.
I haven’t been offered the update yet, assume I’m still in the latter 50%, which is fine by me. I only have one v4 so I would likely have waited anyway, even if offered, I don’t have a “less important” one I can test it on.
I’ve been really holding out hope that one of these updates will resolve the 10-15 second live view delay on the v4 and Panv3 that I have that started around the time they implemented Verified View. Maybe it is something to do with my old Android 14 phone though.
I need to correct my previous comments or misunderstanding on v4’s updating. I have 4 that went thru the update process with a message “Great your update was successful” and I did not pay close enough attention to the firmware number. Now as I look they are all showing as 4.52.9.6119 not the questionable and confusing 4.52.17.19.
I would have to say I’ve been ‘punked’ by Wyze with this update. My cams were updated but they weren’t updated. Thanks Wyze!!!
