Wyze Cam Pan v3 does not save to SD card

Hi,

After few months of correct working my camera no longer records continuously to SD card. I checked that SD card is working in another camera, I did check with both continuous and events only recording and it seems events only recording works but not the continuous one. I did update firmware and app.

Have you tried formatting the card? It is possible the card is starting to go bad, but seems less likely given the symptoms you describe.

All else fails, factory reset the camera and re-add it, see if that helps. But Iā€™d probably try a different, freshly formatted SD card first just to see.

Note that for continuous recording, you want an ā€œenduranceā€ rated SD card designed for constant writes. A few months is about all a standard card will last (it will vary based on the card quality but that is not an unreasonable amount of time).

I did try to format and I also moved a working card from another camera and it didnā€™t work. I tried factory reset didnā€™t help

So it records fine on ā€œevents onlyā€ mode but not at all on continuous mode?

I guess if the SD card slot got water in it or is malfunctioning it might be able to record brief events but not continuous, but that seems like a pretty big coincidence. In events only recording mode does it catch all events or just one every now and then?

Is the camera mounted right side up (lens on top)? If not, and it is outside, some water has probably gotten into it, I learned that the hard way, they are not IP rated when upside down unless you build something to really protect the bottom part, and probably seal over the SD card and power button openings too. If thatā€™s the case, putting it in a bag of rice (open the sd card cover but make sure to get rice out of the slot before putting the card back in) may restore it, I have one that was really flaking out and it seems to work fine now after a few days drying in rice. I mounted the replacement rightside up, not as ideal but works ok for me and has not gotten any water in it.

he said the card work fine, the problem from the camera, I had similar problem before, before I gave the camera as a gift to my friend kid and he doesnā€™t like too.

You gave a broken camera as a gift to a friend and wonder why they donā€™t like it?

Camera is mounted the same way as this picture: https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcQJB4lj2u2QmNEdd79kphfWG4ledZ3jUMIrYQnWaYIzXSW6KS_fKKWgYcrqVnGppzKlSY-3nPdfa9DhXlDu6c6Oj5FEhKGHcVOG_5w39g-XawOnBip8ej94pzz7pTq8-wG0920vg_o&usqp=CAc which should protect from water damage.

Would Wyze replace the camera ?

If it is within 1 year and was an authorized reseller with receipt (or the manufacturing date tied to the cam is less than 1 year) they should replace it. They may want you to do some troubleshooting with them but with mine they just sent a new one without much hassle. Just have to contact their support.

seems to be a common issue currently, there are a couple of other threads in this forum

I have two Panv3s, both are continuous recording to the SD card. Not aware of any common issues with it - which threads?

Those are both about not being able to view playback of saved files. @887714f5aabf416132fa 's issue is that the camera is not saving the files to the card at all.

The second one doesnā€™t even appear to be Panv3 related.

Yep, same issue. It doesnā€™t save the files to the card and then you canā€™t view them!

Not saving the files and not being able to view successfully saved files are totally different issues.

So the only user reporting this particular issue is @887714f5aabf416132fa. That does not make a ā€œcommon issueā€.

iā€™ve seen this being reported with more cameras. Hoping Wyze can address it soon and get it fixed. I have one pan v3 (newer) thatā€™s working correctly (4.50.3.4240) and one older (original with issue, 4.50.5.1318, current firmware)

Again there are two separate issues.

Not recording at all to SD card - not a widespread issue, often due to faulty SD card.

Not being able to view events from the events tab - known issue, can get to the event from other views.

I have started having this problem (not recording to the SD card) with my Wyze Pan Cam v3, support has not been helpful, Iā€™ve tried reformatting the card (Sandisk hi-endurance 64GB) multiple times, with multiple utilities (sdcard.org, then another formatter to FAT32), different SD card, factory-reset the camera, etc. Iā€™ve wasted too much time on such a cheap camera, In fairness, though, I donā€™t see this problem on any of my other non-Pan-v3s, Iā€™ve many other Wyze cams (V2s, V3,s V4,s Pan v1s, doorbells, others), but that makes it even more frustrating.

I appear to be having this (or a similar) issue as well. V3 Pan Cam with 4.50.5.1318 firmware. I was successfully recording events (able to watch them from the app), but decided to switch to continuous recording, and now it appears that nothing is getting saved. At least I can no longer view ā€˜historicalā€™ video from the app (I havenā€™t pulled the card to see if thereā€™s anything written there, but the camera is mounted in an awkward place to get to).

@dave27 mentioned ā€œNot being able to view events from the events tab - known issue, can get to the event from other views.ā€

Iā€™m not sure I know what those are - I have just been watching events by going to the camera tab in the app and picking ā€œSD Cardā€ from the choices below the actual camera footage. That was working for events - maybe Iā€™m looking in the wrong place for continuous playback?

No, going to live view then tapping SD card will take you there. Go into your advanced settings and check on the status of the SD card. Maybe continuous recording has killed it, or maybe switching just confused it. You can try remotely formatting the card in that same screen and see if it starts recording. Before formatting, do a ā€œsynch timeā€ just to make sure the cam has the right time and date on it.

The bug is only if you go to the ā€œeventsā€ tab and try to link to the SD card from there. What youā€™re doing, and also using the ā€œrecent eventsā€ listed below the live view should both work fine.

Thanks! Iā€™ve tried some of that, but Iā€™ll go around again - probably canā€™t hurt. How close does the time need to be? Right now it looks like the time stamp on the live feed is about 2 seconds behind my Apple Watch (although that might just be network lag). Iā€™d think thatā€™s OK, right?
