Wyze Cam Pan v3 - Does not return back to home position

On Fix It Friday thread they posted this:

:house: Reddit - Wyze Cam Pan v3 does not return to set home position :house:

We are working on resolving this problem with the manufacturer. We’ll share updates here as we progress!

This doesn’t sound good. It could be a hardware problem. If I have to guess, most likely motors are skipping steps. I wonder if it is select cameras or all of them, and if Wyze will offer an exchange if it turns out to be a manufacture issue.

Same issues here. Disable certain detection zones, but after chasing something in the yard it returns to to the home position only 10-20 degrees off left, right, up or down. Center of my yard is the home point. I’ll often wake up to find it staring at the eastern property line.

How interesting you guess that is the issue. Check out what the latest beta firmware for it says it fixes. This just came out Yesterday (Monday):

Anyone interested in seeing if this fixes it for you, you can enroll in beta testing for the Pan V3, install this firmware and see if it resolves your issues. Otherwise, it will hopefully pass beta testing and be released to the public firmware tract for everyone soon.

Hi shah, thank you for sharing the detailed issue with us! We did found there are some play errors within the motors in certain moving directions. We have released a new firmware of 4.50.2.3868 to fix it and it is under the beta testing. Do you mind to join our Pan v3 Beta program, try it and let me know if this new firmware works in your case? Many thanks!

Thank you for the reply @WyzeXiZ.

My PanV3 have all been in the Beta Program since installed and are currently running ß v. 4.50.2.3868

The update initially appeared to help the situation, however after a full day of normal use, the cam home position was altered by nearly 2 DZ Blocks upward.

I am continuing to test. I will try to get before and after DZ screenshots for comparison in the daylight tomorrow.

This, and additional issues, were left in the Wyze Cam Pan v3 & Sense Hub Firmware Beta Test 2/13/2023 Beta feedback thread.

I’m at 2.39.0 (20) for the app and at 4.50.2.3868 for the firmware on the CP V3 and it seems to be doing MUCH better. It’s still a tad slow to connect to it in the app and the pan controls in the app are hit/miss, but at least it is now staying on the home position a lot better.

How are others faring?

Thank you @SlabSlayer! 2DZ block-difference sounds still unacceptable. Do you mind to ship back your device to us for a further investigation? We will send you a new replacement if that works for you.

@WyzeXiZ, here is an example of the last 24 hours:

The first image is the initially set home position last night just after 9pm. This was set in the DZ and 4 identical Waypoints. Scan, Track, and DZ on. I am using the two trees as reference points:

This morning, just after 9 am, you can see that the image has shifted down almost a full DZ block:

Then again today just after 2pm, the image has shifted up slightly and left.

This one is from this evening, again with slight variation.

I’m not sure when the initial shift occured last night, but after that initial 1 block shift it seems to be holding very close to the same point, but not exact.

I am going to reset the home position and run another test. Will post again tomorrow.

I have no problem sending it back for inspection once I get a replacement. You can DM me with whatever details you need.

For example if you have set 4 waypoints, the Pan scan movements would be 1->2, 2->3, 3->4, 4->3, 3->2, 2->1, in circle. We found that the drifts are happening between the waypoint 2->3 with the waypoint 3->2 if you use the 3rd waypoint as the reference. What we did is trying to minimize the differences of the two versions. That should be the reason why you observed some times the difference is smaller or larger.

We also found there are devices differences on the performance so that’s why we would like to collect back typical devices that drifted more for a further investigation. I will reach out to our return representative to start the collect back and replace process with you. Thank you so much for sharing the detailed test results with us and willing to send this unit back to us!

ok ben on the new beta firmware since its release. all seamed good until today. i have reset the home positioin 4 times today. I have motion tracking on only and have waypoints set but not scanning to them at the moment. the cam is mounted upside down. so now it seams to be returning right to left ok but now it is returning to a point higher than the set point. before the the lasted beta firmware it would return to a lower point. will update after more time.

For this next test, I have removed all waypoints and turned off scan. Using Motion Tracking and DZ only.

Will post results tomorrow.

Something else I am noticing. I have one waypoint set. This is the position I set the waypoint to:

image

If I then go to the Live stream page and scroll to the far left side, then tap the waypoint to reset back to that view above, it is slightly off to the left in where it returns to:

image

Same if I go far right then tell it to go back to the waypoint:

Or far up or down then tap the waypoint:

It comes pretty close to returning, but it is not perfect yet in going exactly back to the set waypoint. If I go back to motor controls, it does seem to go back to the exact waypoint there. Very interesting that it doesn’t do the same from the live stream page though. I will do some more testing and see what I can figure out. That is just a first impression with the new Beta firmware.

that is how mine is set and up till this afternoon it was doing quite well, but have had to set it 4 times its been few hours and it is still ok, but in fairness the wind has calmed down and it has not been moving as much. i’ll test more as i have time.

Mine is also mounted upside down from under my eave, so up is down…

Just checked it and it was off. I went to the DT to get a measurement of how far in what would normally be a downward direction (up in my case). However, two issues. First, my detection zone has been turned off. I’m restarting it to see if it’s just a comm problem with the cam as (second) the manual motion controls don’t work either…

Restarting it solved the motion issue, but my detection zone was still turned off. I turned it back on and it remembered what I had set. It also returned to the home position. I have a single waypoint set with motion tracking.

My first thought was the location of the cam. It is at the far corner of my house from my router. However, checking the signal strength it says I have 2 bars. So that shouldn’t be the issue. Maybe a controls issue? Or is it just me?

Mine is still drifting up slowly (or down in my case since it’s mounted upside down). It is certainly better than it was as before the beta firmware, it wouldn’t even return to the home position reliably. Now with the beta firmware at least it does that, just not the exact same point. So it drifts.

so far todaymine has been returning to correct home point. but i did notice that the skip at 5 seconds is still there. hadn’t noticed it last couple days, but it is back
