Wyze Bulb Color - Smart WiFi bulb with 16 million colors & sleep routines

Going back to the switch plate cover and remote control topic.

Why not make a remote control switch plate cover? In other words, make a remote control that covers the switch. By doing this it would achieve all goals.

  1. a person can control the light as they normally would if they walk into a room.

  2. It would prevent someone fro. Turing the switch off.

  3. It would allow someone to remove the remote and take it with them. Thus allowing them to turn the lights on or off without getting off the couch or out of bed.

Also, I agree with the bulb needing to be either just as bright or brighter on the high setting and but definitely needs to be much lower on the dimmer setting.

Just so I understand correctly. A remote control that goes over the light switch or replaces the light switch?

Because I have Lutron light switches. That work just like normal light switches. They sell remotes for those also that you can take with you anywhere in the house and turn the lights on and off from anywhere. Is that what you’re talking about?

Also with Lutron they have a completely different way of doing a three-way switch. You put a switch at one end. At the other end you cap the ground and then you take the other wires and wire nut them together. Then you can use a remote which looks exactly like a light switch and mount it there and have a three-way switch but it costs much cheaper. Also by doing this if you have a single switch and you want to make it into a three-way you can just mount a remote to the wall with a cover plate over it and it looks like a light switch and you can then have a three-way where there was once a one-way switch. I know it sounds complicated but it’s actually very very easy and I’ve done it throughout my house and their pairing is very easy also. And if your Wi-Fi is out it still works because they have their own proprietary technology. You just need Wi-Fi to do the initial pairing like the Wyze cameras. Where as I have insteon outlets and when the Wi-Fi was out the outlets worked but you were not able to remotely control them.

It’s easier than that. Just make the remote control holster that sticks to the existing switch plate, and covers the switch. It could be attached with double sided adhesive. Similar to the adhesive wyze already uses for the contact sensors.

But wouldn’t the remote control still allow them to turn the lights on and off and screw up the Wi-Fi bulbs. Once you remove the remote which I’m still not exactly sure how that’s going to work from the wall plate it leaves the switch open for people to still turn on and off which will affect the Wi-Fi bulb.

I went with these in it stopped everyone from accidentally flipping a switch. There are tons of options pick whichever one you want.

you have to leave the power on all of the time with these Wi-Fi bulbs. So you affectively have to eliminate the switch from turning off by covering it somehow or getting people to realize not to mess with it.

I’m not sure how else to state it, and not sure what’s so hard to understand. The remote would have to sit in a holster. The holsters function is to cover the switch and hold a remote, that’s it. The holster would have to hold the remote in a similar fashion to your cellphone holster for your car. In that example you can still use all functions of your phone and the holster just acts as a holder so you have a convenient spot to put your phone.

If you remove the remote from the holsters, the light switch is still being covered by the holster, that is still attached to the wall on top of the switch plate cover, blocking access to the light switch.

With the switch covered by the remote holster if you want to turn the light on you simply press the “on” button on the remote. When you want to turn the light off, you press the “off” button on the remote. The light switch will never be turned off because it is being covered by the remote control holster.

Even if the remote control is not in the holster, you cannot flip the light switch to off because it is being covered by the now empty remote controls holster, still attached to the wall covering the light switch.

The holster could be stuck to the wall, overtop of the light switch so that it cannot be turned off, by adhesive tape for simplicity. I’m about to make it complicated. It can ALSO have 2 holes so that you can remove the existing switch plate cover and screw the holster into the electrical box. No wiring needed, and more permanent than adhesive.

With the light switch now being covered by the holster, which is now attached to the wall, the light switch can no longer be turned off. If you would want to turn the light on or off you simply press a button on the remote. Even if you press the “off” button on the remote the wifi stays connected. It would be the exact same thing as if you turn the wyze light off now with the app. If I press the off button on the remote it is essentially like using the app to turn the light off.

I hope this makes sense because Im not sure I can explain any further.

This is way too much talk of lightswitch covers already. Just start a wishlist.
Having it remote controlled kind of defeats the purpose of it being a smart bulb doesn’t it?
I just want a wyze rgb bulb for mood lighting please.

Get it now that you mention the holster you never mentioned a holster you just mentioned a remote covering the switch. You got to be a little more clear next time. So when you said you couldn’t be any more clear oh yes you could’ve been😉

We need full color bulbs and some kind of integration like Hue has with Razer Chroma. I would love to be able to match my Wyze bulb color to my RGB lighting on my computer.

Get the current bulbs to go dimmer 1st. They cannot be used as night lights because even on the lowest settings possible they are pretty bright.

I really like to use the same brand Smart things. I have 8 Wyze plugs and a Wyze Bulb and like to use just the one app and Google Home.

However, I did end up replacing the Wyze Bulb with a Fiet Electric RGB bulb that Menards sells for $5. The app is a bit goofy, but i only used it to setup the thing…on a spare phone. and just use my Google Home to control it.

I like to have a very dim Red led come on for when i wake up late at night and i need to see to get up. It also goes much more dim than the Wyze white only bulb.

I see “in-development” tag on this thread. hope that means Wyze is working on one.
Would love to test one if they have kinda pre-release or beta program.

As night approaches I have my lights shift towards a red color for better sleep.

In the morning, I have my bedside light ramp up it’s brightness in a blue color for the opposite effect.

@Kimj. Is it possible to make the existing light go dimmer?

I think that a full color light bulb will be great!! Maybe you could make the full color one go dimmer than the existing one does? Is there any update on the progress of this?

Yes it will!

The existing bulb had hardware constraints to go dimmer. BUT we are making the upcoming color bulb to go much dimmer, and we’re making a night light that’s warm and dim

Ok cool! Thanks! Will the new one have the same level of brightness?

We are thinking to making the new one with a different level of brightness! Curious of you guys’ thoughts!
