I wondered about that. As far as being up to your neck in Yuck I had a framed copy of a useful saying for similar cases I kept prominently displayed. It said:
“Lack of planning on your part does NOT constitute an emergency on my part.”

I’m gonna say dull pencil, but as you know, IANAProgrammer so I’m sure someone can do better…
An oldie, but a goodie there, R.Bruce!
Picture Han Solo, Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca in the garbage compactor (minus impending crush danger) in the original Star Wars…
Mmmmm, fish sticks…
Getting back to reality and Wyze App v 2.7
I’ve a Sam J3 w/ A7.01 - significant lag an the latest builds.
In Restore hardware acceleration on android - #48 by gemniii @WyzeAndy posted V2.7.377.
Cut my lag on my J3 to almost noexistant WITH a black cam still on FW 4.9.4.38. When I selected the Hard setting I had immediate response. When I selected the Soft setting it had 10 second video lag.
I then tried it on a cam I had updated a few days ago with FW 4.9.5.28, with the setting on high the video won’t load, on soft it loads immediately but has a 20 second lag.
So it seems there may be hope but it’s also FW dependent somehow.
What does hard and soft signify? I don’t seem to see those settings in my Android tablet version of the Wyze app?
I am guessing someone means hardware (hard) and software (soft) acceleration settings. But I have not seen those settings in Android for awhile now. Are they back?
They are only in the test version and I have not seen documentation. I think it refers to hardware or software decoding.
Ah ok, so not in 2.7 yet. So what in your post applies to 2.7? It was kind of hard to read. Are you making an observation or asking a question?
FWIW I did install the iOS version when it finally went live. 2.7.29.
No noticeable video lag in the App. Via Alexa there is a noticeable 3 to 5 second video lag. Audio does not appear to be in sync with video, in the app audio seems to lag about 1 to 3 seconds in live view. It’s very laggy and choppy when viewing via Alexa on a V2 Show and a 4K FireTV.
Outward audio on a Pan (Tap and hold) via the app is unintelligible and about 2 to 3 seconds delayed. On a V2 the outward bound audio is delayed but audible.
Rules seem fine on iPhone and iPad as relates to the Saturday issue.
Going from an Event or Sensor video to the SD card playback works smoothly but slowly. And it seems off by about 10 seconds.
That’s all I have seen so far.
This latest Android version breaks SD card playback. I have two devices side by side, one has the older version and can play today’s SD clips. But not the newest version. Viewing clips from the same camera, on the same network.
Makes you wonder about testing. This proves that Wyze doesn’t do regression tests.
Edit –
After retrying, now I see today’s SD clips. This is weird. I never had this issue with the older version.
I was making the observation that the performance of the app may depend on the firmware.
As well as your Android version, and many other things. I was surprised my lag was eliminated again because I HAD NOT UPDATED my new cams.
That makes sense. Thanks. On iOS the Firmware appears to make no difference in the performance of the cams. It’s strictly a function of the app. Not sure why ios is different in that regard. But I will say the lag is more pronounced this time around at least on the iOS side.
Perhaps Google did not demand new libraries.
They certainly did not. It’s why I don’t use Android much, I can’t stand Google. Luckily they have zero influence on iOS unless you choose to use their apps. Which I go to great lengths to avoid. I have one Android tablet to test Android apps with and I use a dummy account for that.
Well, Google did indirectly demand new libraries when they decreed that Android will only run 64-bit apps going forward. There are lots of 32-bit apps currently in Google Play.
True but that’s Android not iOS.
I very much dislike Google and their various practices/postures as well. Too much power like a number of other “big tech” concerns.
Main reason I prefer Android phones to Apple is just simple configurability… gotta have my microSD expansion capability and access to the bowels of the OS & filesystem. Plus my distaste for the recent ridiculous escalation in smartphone pricing (led by Apple).
Retrospectively, I wonder if Wyze could’ve continued the 32-bit app as it was and launched a 64-bit version concurrently (longer running beta concept) in parallel for a time? Once the x64 was polished they could’ve chosen a sunset strategy for the 32-bit version to gradually fade to legacy.
This new update has made all my rules turn on an hour late. Why is it every time we get a new app this seems to be a regular issue with the schedules?
