Has anyone seen this update become available?

You must be on Android too. Google often slows things down, particularly over the weekend. They mostly want to make sure one of their employees makes sure there aren’t any workarounds to avoiding paying them the subscription extortion…I mean royalties. So basically the announcement is that Wyze submitted the app update and we’re just awaiting Google’s approval process now. That can sometimes take as long as 7 days. Really annoying.

I just got this update on my two Pixel Phones this morning!

The Hotfix App is working well for me. Still cannot view Playback from the Events page on one v3 on Cam Plus. Getting “Micro SD Card Not Found” error even though I can view the SD card from the Home Screen.

Nice. Just got the update now and I can confirm it fixed the Monitoring tab crashing.

Thank you for the explanation! I was under the impression when the post went live the update had been approved on by Google already. This definitely helps set expectations correctly

Yeah, Google does allow app providers to do this, but then it takes longer to release the app. Google allows developers 2 options for releases/updates:

  1. Automatic release immediately after Google approval
    • This allows users to get a new update without any extra delays. This is the fastest way to do it, but it also leaves uncertainty for when Google releases the update. This option is important to do for critical security updates and hotfixes like this so things get received the fastest way possible.
  2. Staged rollout with developer control
    • This method doesn’t release the app as soon as google approves the submitted update. Instead they put it on hold, and tell the developer when they have completed the approval process, and then the developer can choose when to release the update afterward. The plus side of this method is that the customer never knows the app was pending for so long waiting on Google’s approval, but on the downside it takes longer for us to get critical app updates when time is of the essence. So this method is not recommended when it involves known security issues or critical hotfixes needed to fix user experience ASAP.

So, as annoying as it is for us to not get the update the day Wyze announces it sometimes, I am still glad they choose the fastest method so we can get fixes as quickly as possible even though it FEELS longer to us sometimes.

I noticed I am not able to turn off vacation mode on my color bulbs when in a group.

Once I deleted the groups and went into the bulb’s individual settings I was able to actually turn it off.

The toggle still moves in the group’s settings but doesn’t actually seem to work. When you go back to the main group page, the vacation mode label is still there.

For whatever it’s worth @UserCustomerGwen once wrote this on the Wyze Discord server when @tfmm wasn’t seeing an available update in Google Play Store:

We usually have a small percentage of folks who don’t get app updates for a little longer. We can’t halt a difficult update if we release it to 100% of customers immediately (I still grumble about that) so we keep back a few percent. I suspect you’re part of that group.

I guess sometimes that can also be a reason for a delay.
