Wyze app 3.1.5 Released - 9/23/24

I finally updated to this one today (I was using Android v3.0.5.558 and skipped v3.1.0.564) and have no complaints in limited use so far. Did the “NEVER WONDER” tagline show up in this version or was it the one I skipped? I don’t recall seeing it before, but it’s slick. I dig it. :+1:

I remember when you dropped from beta release back to 558. A few days later I did the same.

My opinion. The latest beta, 3.2.0 b574 is miles ahead of any previous release. b574 is what we should have seen 2 or 3 months ago.

Just reloaded the app to see the tag line you were asking about. The app loads so fast I cannot read the tag line.

Wasn’t me. I’ve never actually used any Wyze beta software.[1]

So far I have the current production app only on an older phone. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I see it.

  1. I’ve seen some suggestions that all Wyze software is beta. ↩︎

You get mistaken for someone else a lot, eh?

Sorry, old memory. In my opinion 558 was the last version where grouped cameras in Favorites seemed fast and smooth.

On subsequent releases they changed the timers on grouped or ungrouped cameras.

I’ll be interested in how your cameras in Favorites load compared with 558 grouped cameras.

That’s what you get when you change the avatar more often than the under wear

I want to amend my previous statement:

Event tags are missing in Cam OG’s microSD recording playback timeline, as demonstrated in this topic:

I don’t know exactly when those disappeared, but I think it’s probably app related.

It happens, I guess. I’ve probably been accused of worse! :man_shrugging:

No apology is necessary! My experience with this current production version of the app feels zippier, like I’m not having some of the live stream loading lag I was noticing previously.

The way my favorites page is currently set up, I’ve taken a cue from @Omgitstony, so I have the Video Doorbell v2 top center and then four camera groups on the left. I get the “Loading Livestream…” message for the doorbell for a few seconds when I open the app, and I would estimate ~1-3 seconds or so per group (1-3 cameras per group) when I tap to open those. I don’t have any objective data, but it feels about the same as the previous v3x app in group view and maybe a little quicker and more reliable when I then tap on an individual camera to load its Live Stream page.

Well, that’s just not true at all! Not for me, anyway. I’ve had this current avatar for several…uh…days, and I assure you that I’ve changed :shorts: on a regular and socially acceptable schedule within that time frame.

@Crease

Thanks for the details. The reason I ask is 558 was the last release that I thought Favorites was optimized.

Back in August I observed the differences between grouped and ungrouped cameras.

This is what I observed.

This observation was valid through 558. Subsequent releases changed how the cameras stream. The next release after 558 both grouped and ungrouped were almost unusable. Instead of making ungrouped perform the same as grouped, they made grouped a bit worse and ungrouped a bit better. This was done by adding a 35-40 second delay (camera streaming) when the camera lost screen focus. This delay is valid regardless what you do until you close the app.

Bottom line. In my case, with 10 cameras streaming, this slows down the responses when viewing multiple livestreams.

You may never see this as an issue as you have limited you groups to 3 cameras. Up until the latest beta, b574, I to had good results breaking my 10 cams into 2 groups. With b574 I am seeing acceptable performance with all 10 cameras in a group.

This is getting long winded but…

As all of this was going on I decided to make sure there wasn’t a gremlin with my ISP, router, wifi, environment. I found an old iPhone 6s in the past-used pile. Factory reset, all updates, loaded wyze with my account. The results were an eye opener. The 10 year old iPhone moved seamlessly between my 10 cameras. Either grouped or ungrouped. The iPhone was a bit slow switching menus etc but once on the Favorites page it was seamless.

What observed was the wyze IOS implementation of Favorites was different. Whether grouped or ungrouped the red light only came on when the camera was onscreen focus. When the camera was off focus the red light was out in a second!!!.

So 3 cameras streaming at the same time (iPhone 6s) vs 10 cameras streaming for 35 seconds (Samsung S21 Ultra). A performance hit in my opinion.

p. s. Ever wonder why the Monitor feature only allows 4 cameras.?

I very rarely hit the Monitoring tab. Same for Events. Most of the time I open any kind of Wyze Cam view, it’s because I’m looking for more detail about a recent notification or I want to check on something a Live Stream is seeing at a particular time. I imagine that the Monitoring tab limit is probably a consequence of both app/stream performance and screen real estate, and I would speculate that’s also the same for throwing a Group into landscape view (i.e., up to 4 cameras at once), which is what I tend to look at if I want to see more than one at a time since, at least as far as the production app goes, Multi-Camera Timeline View on the Monitoring tab still doesn’t support landscape view, though supposedly that’s on the roadmap before next year.
