So I unfortunately updated to the new Wyze app v3 and really wish I didn’t. Heres why:
Favorites tab is useless. The block tiles cut off the names of the device or device group if it has a longer name so I cant tell what Im turning on or off. So for instance if you have a device called " Living Room Device 1" and " Living Room Device 2" you cant tell which is which on the favorites page. So now you have to go to the devices page and good luck trying to find that specific device now! If you have a lot of devices and groups there are more listings on that page because of how its (badly) re-organized.
Device tab is a mess. In the previous version by using device groups it would completely clean up and simplify the Home tab. Now on the device tab you have the groups and the individual devices so there is pages of scrolling if you have a lot of devices. On the previous version I had only a few items listed after grouping many of them. Now I have 3 times that. And because I cant tell what some devices are from the home tab because it cuts off the name Im on the device tab scrolling through the listings to trying and find it.
After all that when you can finally find the device you want to turn on /off / access theres no power button next to the device! Just the favorite button? That makes no sense because now you have to click into that device to turn it on and off which is a separate step. What used to take 2 seconds now has me staring at the app and scrolling to simply access or turn a device on / off.
I wish I had waited to update to the new version and stayed on the old one because the app is useless now IMO. I find myself carrying my ipad around the house because it has the old version that is way easier to use. Unfortunately that won’t help when not at home because I won’t have my iPad with me just my phone that has this terrible new version. I will not be updating to the new version on any other device and have let everyone I know using Wyze devices to look into it before they upgrade.
I reached out to Wyze support to see if they can provide a link to the previous version and they have told me there is no way to go back with out restoring your device to a previous state with that older version. I recommend all users look into this new version before upgrading to see if its right for them because you can’t easily go back.
Im a huge Wyze fan and almost all my IOT devices are Wyze but I’m astonished and disappointed that this redesign was approved. This is actually the 1st time I’ve considered going to another vendor because of this terrible app upgrade. Wyze makes great products so hopefully they will revisit this bad re design and address these issues.
I just installed the new Wyze app IOS version 3.0.0.16.
I can no longer find the ‘rules history’ that allowed me to view what rules are being triggered and when. This is a very useful feature.
In the previous app version, I could click on the Account tab, select Rules, then select the “History” tab at the bottom-middle. This is no longer found in the latest app? I poked around, but found not find it anywhere. Has this feature been removed by Wyze?
Same comment: “After all that when you can finally find the device you want to turn on /off / access theres no power button next to the device!”…. TERRIBLE UPDATE. Did somebody approve it? Did Wyze consult the changes with actual customers/users? Terrible mistake to upgrade. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT….
I want to go back to the previous version. I don’t like any of the changes. The recordings are not smooth and are jumpy. I wish that I hadn’t upgraded to the new 3.0 app. The camera views under Favorites are larger than I need them to be. I should be able to click on them as before if I need to see them larger.
I hope that Wyze will correct these problems in a timely manner.
I agree wholeheartedly. The new app is a conglomeration of bells & whistles. What I really miss is the full-sceen 4 camnera view. Practical functionality has been reduced. It would be almost bearable if the abilty to display the full-screen 4 cam view was present.
I have one tablet that did not get the update, so that is a bit of a consolation.
I was surprised to see everything worked fine. After reading reviews, I was discouraged. It turns out otherwise.
I have 8 cams and I can view 4 cams on each page.
I have no issues with the new app, so far.
I can only imagine that maybe I don’t fully use the app like others do that have 300+ devices. I found grouping on my favorites tab works just like 2.x.
Yes it’s still there, but in portrait mode only with just two camera views. If you can tell me how to get a 4 camera, full screen landscape view, I’d really appreciate it.
If you had 4 cameras assigned to a group under 2.50.x, you have the same group under 3.0. Just tap on the group to display all 4 in landscape, the same as under 2.50. Under 3.0, the group is in Devices. If you favorite the group in Devices (tap the star icon), you’ll see the group in Favorites. Just tap your group icon regardless of app version or app location. If you see only 2-3 cams in your group displayed in top-down/portrait, even though your phone/tablet is physically in landscape, your device’s auto-rotation setting is stuck on portrait. Just switch via Android quick settings or Android display preferences. If none of that helps, please state your viewing device’s model info, Android operating system version number and Wyze app version number.
OK, clearly another case of operator error. I had all of my cams set as favorites. I deselected them, & set my group (name) only as a favorite. When I tap on that group name (star) I am able to get the full four cam view - no issues with landscape or portrait.
I learned to admit when I’m wrong from my late wife, who was somehow always right.
