WYZE 50% price increase for Cam Plus

Wyze is jacking price 50% from $20 to $30 for Cam Plus. I am cancelling WYZE. What other options are there for storage?

Other brands such as Eufy, Tapo, etc…

Have subscription free cams without a 5 minute cool-down, and far better system reliability along with better built camera’s.

No reason to stick with Wyze

The Video Doorbell v1 (the small white square-ish one) doesn’t support SD cards, nor native RTSP, so it is limited on alternative storage options. The following are your best bet for the original Video Doorbell v1:

  • Tiny Cam Monitor - This is an Android app. If you have an old Android phone you can run it on there, or with a computer you can run an “Android Emulator” on the computer and install the Tiny Cam app to run on there. Now with this app, you can have it do a number of things. It can record events directly onto the phone or computer and allow you to access and view them from any other device on your network. It’s actually a pretty decent solution. It even tells you when events had AI objects detected like Person detection, Vehicle, Pet, etc, all for free, and it is designed to work with Wyze cameras. It will also support converting the video to “RTSP” so you can save the footage to any other network storage you want using other programs that accept the generic RTSP streams.
  • Docker Wyze Bridge - This is a 3rd party opensource project that sometimes has issues with some camera models since Wyze keeps changing the authentication protocol. But you would install this as a “Docker Container” on a computer and it will convert your camera stream to RTSP and then you can put your camera in any other camera management program that accepts RTSP and you can have it record and save your motion events.

I’ve grown fatigued of wyze. Feels like they switched gears as a company. Price increases, pay walls to basic features like person detection and lack of innovation in the camera market. They keep bringing out new scales when we are asking for affordable cameras.

Been doing some research and I’ve decided to switch my whole system over to Eufy.
