I have a battery powered Video Doorbell Pro and a chime that plugs into a 120 v outlet. I’m getting tired of charging the battery and want to hardwire to continuous power. Can I just attach it to a transformer 16v, 10VA? Anything I should know?
this I what I use
You can search the Forum for something like #video-doorbell-pro transformer to see examples of what some other users have done. You may also want to consult the “Wired Installation” section of the Installation Guide. If you have existing doorbell wiring and a 16 V, 10 VA transformer that’s operating correctly, then you should be able to use that. If it’s running through an existing wired chime (that you’re obviously not using with the current battery-powered Video Doorbell Pro), then you’ll want to bypass the chime as described in the installation guide[1] in order to provide reliable power to the Video Doorbell Pro. Video Doorbell Pro’s label indicates that it can take 10-24 V AC, 10 VA as input, and apparently there’s an additional advantage to wiring Video Doorbell Pro.
If you don’t have the jump wire, then you could also just connect your FRONT and TRANS wires together and have them not connected to the chime at all, but I’d want to label them first in case you ever change to a video doorbell that can make use of your chime; otherwise, you may need to test them in the future to determine which is which (which isn’t a bad idea anyway and can have benefits of saving potential troubleshooting headaches). ↩︎
