Hey guys, I am so tired of having to remove the Video Doorbell Pro, bring it inside to recharge and all that. Which ‘wired’ versions doorbell works without any issues or maintenance please?
Just curious. The doorbell pro allows a wired connection that also recharges the battery.
If you don’t have existing wiring I’m not sure why you would want a wired solution.
Personally I have a doorbell v2 that is wired. There were some issues early on but those have been fixed.
There is also the new Duo. It adds new features.
Nice! I was never aware of that the PRO model can be wired, where might I get an instructional video for this please? Looking on YouTube, I am not finding one.
Thanks, think I might have issue here though if using the mechanical doorbell which is wired to the transformer. We have the same original doorbell chime for BOTH front and back door.
That was why I needed a different chime for the front as I remember now. The original front doorbell is located right next to the Wyze so would not be an issue simply disconnecting the original doorbell wires and attaching it to the wyze.
But any ideas for possible workaround regarding the chimes please?
If no option for the above then does Wyze have a video doorbell with any other hard wire option which does NOT need to be wired to my house’s existing doorbell system please?
This way I can disable the house doorbell wire at the front keeping the back doorbell active as-is.
I’m getting clearer picture of your use case.
Your current doorbell pro will only bind to its own chime.
I’m not aware of a solution not using the house wiring. You would have to get an appropriate plug in power supply, run wires, etc.
The doorbell v2 may have a solution. There is a support note that details how to accomplish a front/rear setup.
If I understand this you would put the v2 on the front door and leave the back as is. You would also need another chime controller.
Thanks. I did some research and found this transformer I can use to power the video doorbell. Wyze Support just confirmed it should work:
That looks like a good solution. Hopefully you have an outlet nearby.
Yes I do, about 2-3’ away but ideally I need a ‘desktop’ monitoring option for these cams, I have 3, the front doorbell, and 2 cams for both sides of the Garage.
It’s bothersome for me always having to use my phone to view, this that or the other event or live monitoring. Especially now coming into winter months, people walking their dog and not cleaning up after them.
my.wyze.com/live using a browser?
I had tried that, seldom works accurately on my end.
I think I need a CCTV option for reliability
Hmmm. Only 3 cameras. That should work. If you said 10 I would question it.
I don’t use web view very often. Just did a sanity check. Ran the following 3 cams for 5 minutes. I may use this more often.
I just stumbled into this topic and have another thought. If I understand @fonzhende1’s current setup (and please correct me if I’m wrong), then you’re dealing with something like this:
- Video Doorbell Pro at front door running off battery.
- Wired “dumb” doorbell button still present at front door (next to Video Doorbell Pro) with wiring to chime intact.
- Wired “dumb” doorbell button at back door connected to chime.
- Maybe mechanical chime box with FRONT, TRANS, and REAR terminals?
- Chime Pro plugged in near home’s built-in chime.
This is what I’d try before buying something else:
- Turn off doorbell power at the breaker.
- Attach the jump wire to the FRONT and TRANS terminals in the chime box. (I don’t see this listed in the What’s in the box section of Video Doorbell Pro’s product page, so I don’t know if it’s actually included or not, though the wired installation instructions mention it.)
a. Attach one end of the jump wire to the TRANS terminal and use a wire nut to connect the other end of the jump wire to the wire you removed from the FRONT terminal. (Do this only if Step 2 fails.)
b. Connect the wire you removed from the FRONT terminal directly to the TRANS terminal to bypass the chime in front and provide power directly to the Video Doorbell Pro. (Do this only if Step 2a fails OR if you don’t have the jump/fuse wire at all.) - Remove the existing “dumb” doorbell button at front door and attach the wires from the wall to the terminals on back of Video Doorbell Pro. You can use the extension wires included with Video Doorbell Pro to help with this if you need more wire length.
- Turn on doorbell power at the breaker and test. If it doesn’t work after wiring the chime box per regular Step 2, then try Step 2a and/or Step 2b.
My standard disclaimer: I am not an electrician. I think this would work, though, and allow you continue to use your back doorbell (you’re leaving that wiring intact) along with powering your Video Doorbell Pro at the front door off your low-voltage AC (but not having that trigger the home’s built-in chime). It’s something that I think I’d be inclined to try in your situation, at least as I understand it.
I’d also want to know what the current transformer’s rating is, and even knowing that I’d test it myself with a multimeter. The transformer power might be your limiting factor if you’re trying to power two doorbell buttons off the same transformer and chime combination. I don’t know how much of a voltage drop you’d be expected to see with a press of the back doorbell button, but if you can operate the Video Doorbell Pro in a wired configuration and still have the battery installed, then maybe that’s not much of an issue.
Thanks. This is a 60-something year old house with an old large transformer located somewhere inside the wall in the basement, I think. So I can tell the voltage.
But I think this is all a moot point since the Wyze Chime doesn’t have any open ‘terminals’ on the back, only the 2-prong AC thingys?
Is this a view from your phone or desktop pc please?.
I think main issue for me, the network here keeps getting interrupted at different times during the days, we have changed network providers many times and still no help for this, even though we are in Queens, NY.
Whenever the network pauses, this stops the live view therefore only option I am seeing is a wired CCTV option or might there be anything else?
Phone, using duck duck go. Or maybe it was edge.
Thx, last questions please. I have Cam plus for my front garage cam so only that is showing in the live browser view. If I were to gt Cam plus for my other cams, will I then see those cams too in the live view?
Also, for the wiring of the transformer, far I am understanding, it does not matter which of the 2 wires is connected to which terminal on the back of the wyze doorbell, is this correct please?
I could’ve been more clear. When I talk about “chime”, “chime box”, and a home’s “built-in chime”, I’m talking about what I imagine to be a mechanical chime mounted on your wall somewhere. It likely has a cover that you can take off to expose the wiring, solenoids, plungers, ding-dong tone bars, etc. I try to be explicit when talking about Wyze products and use their capitalized names, like Chime Pro and Video Doorbell Pro.
Chime Pro plugs into a standard outlet. You need that if you’re using Video Doorbell Pro, because my understanding is that it acts kind of like a Wi-Fi hub or bridge. Chime Pro connects to your home’s Wi-Fi, and Video Doorbell Pro connects via Bluetooth to Chime Pro.
If you could photograph your transformer and/or home’s built-in mechanical chime and share that, then that could help to confirm what you’re dealing with.
That’s correct. It’s alternating current, and the doorbell doesn’t care.
