I hope this posts: been awhile. My older modem that had two ssid’s so I could set them up on the 2.4 GHz and the 5.0 would run what it could automatically. Now I have a new xb7, replacing the old one Sunday, but will it with one ssid “know” to use 2.4 when required or should I split the modem/gateway into two ssid’s. But: then will my other devices when they can get the 5.0 be auto recognized or do I have to go into my wifi settings and manually change to 5.0. I’m confused….but old, that’s a mulligan. Or, do I need to replace with Pan Cam v4’s? Help..
The best and easiest way is to you use the same SSID and password as the old gateway. That way all your devices will connect automatically. Having said that, I wonder why are you getting a new XB7 when XB8 is available? It has been proven that XB7 is an inferior device. Can you demand that they send you an XB8?
Wow, they sent it to me and said I’ll get speeds up to 1000 mgs. I didn’t know there was an xb8. I have made friends with an Xfinity/comcast support guy from Massachusetts who is calling me back Sunday to help me out in setting it up. I’ll mention it to him. Thanks for the tip, appreciate the reply. As an aside, I just spoke with Wyze and a very friendly rep told me there is a Pan Cam that I would not have to split the ssid’s. Pan Cam v7?
Thanks again
Hey Habib, I believe I have to split it to two ssid’s though, right? Same ssid’s and pw’s. But my concern is will that xb7 still automatically pick up for the other devices (tv, laptops, iPads, roku, etc.) if I split the xb7? I don’t want to have to go into the list of networks in settings all the time and pick either the 2.4 or the 5.0. Am I making sense? I’m thinking just get the new Pan Cam’s and replace my seven year old cameras albeit still working well. I guess upgrade the entire house. What do you think?
You shouldn’t need to split things that way. For initial configuration of Wyze devices you MIGHT need to temporarily disable the 5ghz network, but the router should direct devices to the correct SSID.
As @WildBill said, no need to split. Just make sure that your SSID and password are the same as the old one. The router will direct 2.4GHz devices to that band and 5GHz to the other. However, if you had the bands split before you might have to do that if you don’t want to reset devices. Personally, I would keep the bands together and use the old 2.4GHz SSID and password at least for the cameras in case they are installed in hard to reach places. Laptops, iPads and Rocku are easier to add to the new network.
A couple of years ago I had an XB7 and my Wyze v3 cameras worked fine on the XB7. The reason I went with my own cable modem and WiFi router is because Comcast / Xfinity told me that my package expired and I no longer get the XB7 free.
That was fine because I generally like using my own equipment.
Keep in mind with an XB7 or XB8, Comcast / Xfinity is using some bandwidth for their customer WiFi hotspots.
I always tell people to go into their account and shut that off.
There were a lot of issues with the XB7 and Wyze and other devices last year. Have not heard complaints in a while so may have been resolved, but generally people try to avoid that model.
Well, although the original xb7 that was mailed to me, when I went to install it, after spending hours of stupid and inane texts on the phone ended up bad out of the box, Bright and early the next morning a technician came out and determined it was indeed bad. He had a load of them on the truck, Within an hour he had one up and running.
Although I did have to go around and among other devices did have to restart my Wyze cameras they operate fine. Not only are they working here but I have no issue seeing all the cameras 2,000 miles away at another home.
I did find one thing on my iPad. I did as he suggested and turned off my cellular data on it and it works better. Sometimes I find some sites I’m looking at, let’s say Clear for example, won’t load and just keep spinning. That’s not a Wyze thing but must be the xb7. I use my phone on cellular data and no problem.
Weird stuff but as far as my original post
, the Wyze cameras parse out the 2.4 GHz. These cameras are from 2018. So excited bought more stuff from the Wyze store.
