After the most recent update 1.0.82 July 19 2024 (regular update not beta) the Wyze Cam OG is detecting motion events in the grey/gray zones and sending dozens or more of alerts more per day for motion when its just a “tree waving”.
I have the entire right side of the detection grid set to gray where the tree is located. The tree does not enter or exit any of the clear zones at any time, nor does it pass by the zones. The ‘motion tagging’ boxes do not enter the clear zones.
I have tried clearing all zones and redoing them, I have rebooted the camera, I have rebooted my router.
And there goes another alert, “Motion Detected”.
Any ideas? Should I downgrade the camera to a previous firmware?
I don’t know if that’s even possible with that camera model. I have a vague recollection of someone else in the Forum writing that it’s not possible with Cam OG, but I don’t know what the source of that information is. I do know that the Release Notes & Firmware page doesn’t show separate download links for Cam OG firmware versions like it does for some camera models (e.g., Cam v3), so I’m not sure how you’d go about flashing a different firmware onto a Cam OG if it is possible.
I’m very certain that it is the tree motion in the gray zone, it is not spider webs (I did clean the lens to check), it is not insects, there is not a jolly green giant tiptoeing into view.
I do not have plus, I do not have protect, and those are not required for the basic function of the camera.
Stop.
The camera zones function was working before the update.
I might try cropping and editing a video to upload, not sure.
That is definitely cropped. This leads us to assume the initial motion trigger may be something off-screen in the detection zone that we can’t see. The green motion tag box isn’t saying this is the thing that triggered the event, it is programmed totally separately to highlight motion even outside the detection zone, so it doesn’t really mean anything. We need to see if there is a plant or flag or SHADOW or wind chime or something anywhere else on the screen that may be within the detection zone.
Now, if you have a legit privacy concern, and this is why you keep cropping it, please don’t compromise your privacy concern for something like this. We just explaining why we can’t blindly accept that the camera seems to be ignoring the detection zone when it might not be. Without seeing the full screen of a full event, we have to basically believe the real trigger is in the part of the screen we can’t currently see that keeps getting hidden from us. The green motion tags don’t actually mean that is the motion being used to trigger an event, it is just telling you what has the strongest motion in view anywhere on the screen at the moment, not that it is what triggered the event within the detection zone (that stuff might be getting ignored by the cloud upload trigger).
So, I watched the full clipped video anyway, it indicates this whole area is within the detection zone and triggering events, including the shadow on the bottom:
Did this start after you updated the firmware to 1.0.82? If so, I (and others) are having the same issue. Toggling detection zone off then back on fixes it for a while, sometimes a day, sometimes a few hours.
EDIT - I see that it did start after the firmware update. This is something wyze needs to address urgently. There is no rollback possible.
Note that when creating a new topic, on the right it will tell you if your topic is similar to others. The thread I started on this is a couple below yours in the forum. Best to use a single thread for an issue like this.
I have been experiencing the same problem, and it started *immediately * after the recent update.
Although the area has been greyed out, every single vehicle that drives past my house creates an event.
Every
single
one.
I’ve tried turning the detection zone feature off an on again as suggested in another part of the forum, and also tried expanding the grey zone as much as I dare…
No joy.
It’s as if the detection zone has been disabled.
On my OGs, toggling the zone off and on solves it but not permanently. It went for a day the first time, then a few hours. I seem to be toggling them twice a day now.
Yes it is totally ignoring the zone best I can tell, as I have tons of detections from all over the grey area, which is how I know to go toggle it off and on again.
Try resetting services and rebooting the cams too, none will permanently solve it but hopefully you’ll get to a point where you can at least fix it temporarily.
I am seeing the same problem. The detection zone is restricted to my driveway but cars passing on the street are causing an event even though the street is in the gray zone. This began with the update ( hate to call it an upgrade) to 1.0.82. Unusual thing is it doesn’t always log an event for every vehicle passing but does for most.
Assuming you don’t have Cam Plus it will only log an event every 5 mins max (even though it will show the green box if you have it enabled in live view).
I do have Cam Plus. What I see for events is many in a cluster spread over time and then a null period which can be hours long and then a relative flurry of events with triggers in the gray zone. Note this camera has been working as expected until the latest firmware.
Yeah it definitely started with 1.0.82 for many. There is a separate private discussion with several of us loading a firmware that increases the logging information so Wyze can try to get to the bottom of it.
Toggling detection zone off and back on or rebooting the camera does fix it, but only for a few hours typically (sometimes more or less, seems to depend how much motion the camera sees, whether valid motion or not).
I’m guessing even with Cam Plus there is some sort of limit on how many events it can generate and upload so maybe that is why it is missing some of them.
