Why I will never buy another Wyze camera

I have owned 2 V3’s for a year plus now…they are rock solid and with the camlite plus, they don’t false for nothing (wind, light, etc). I picked up a v4 and after the 30 day trail went with no paid plan. Turns out Wyze has raped their own software so bad, all this camera does is false. Wind, light, and nothing i can even see. I have blocked out areas and even lowered the sensitivity to now 15. It will alert and show a still pic aiming at the Upper left corner as if smart is on…its not. I did contact 2 people i had recommended the brand to and told them to took elsewhere. For a better managed camera company. I’m pissed and very disappointed in Wyze…

Not following, you’re upset that the paid features aren’t available without subscription? This is definitely a consideration for people when choosing, do they want to pay more up front for a camera with included “AI” filtering or less for one that doesn’t have those features. For my needs and with the detection zones and sensitivities I’ve tweaked, they work exactly how I need them to. But if person/pet/car/package detection is important, you have to factor in the cost of the subscription, or look at other brands. Honestly, if you pay a year at a time, the subscription is not unreasonable in my opinion.

But to blanket say Wyze is junk because of that seems excessive. Just like anything, you need to shop for one that has the features you want and factor in any subscription costs. There are complaints about every brand, heck try out Blink or Ring for a while, you’ll be begging to pay for the Wyze subscription. The TP Link has some of the detections included, but the image quality is a lot worse in the comparisons I saw. Reolink is popular but more expensive up front.

I’m upset that all the camera does is false and as such it is a worthless pos without paying every month for an overprice low resolution camera.
I don’t need to know if its a pet, or car, or package., i did expect it to not false at a setting of 15 and with trees blocked out. I even noticed it was still picking up trees even when blocked out when the sensitivity was as low as 40. It is now so low i get nothing. I can dance 10 feet in front of it…

I have none of the issues you are describing with my v4. I have the detection set at 50% and I don’t get any false positives. It might be the area where your camera is located.

Its not…its not my first camera from wyze or my first camera from others.
I unplugged my v3 and put this one in its place…i knew i had to adjust the sensitivity but this is crazy…and now at 15 i get nothing…going back up to 20.

I put the V4 right next to my V3 and set the settings the same. The only difference is the V3 uses camlite so it tells me if its a pet or a car, etc…i really don’t care.
Notice the views are the same, at the bottom is the v3 event when it put the camera up. Since then the V4 continues to false…if there is wind it alerts. The v3 does not false. What Wyze did was strip their software of any ability to discern wind or rain or anything…unless you pay for it. Pic with purple (bottom) is cam lite. V3 camera

PLUS it filters out things that are NOT defined as those, so yes, you do care. It is filtering out the noise you’re complaining of on the v4.

Yes, they did, and this is disclosed on the cams made after January 2023 (after the v3). Your v3s are grandfathered into the free service, the v4s are not eligible.

So they have decided to sell a camera that is useless without paying for the plans?
You are aware other companies who offer free no charge cameras also include ‘noise’ blocking.
Wyze has chosen to no longer provide anything in the way of filtering anything from the alerts unless you pay for their software. That makes their cameras useless outdoors… I can buy a cheap, higher resolution outdoor camera with no software contract that does filter out rain, wind, bugs, etc…its called a sensitivity filter…
Again, i really don’t care if they can id a car vs a person or pet, i do care that wind, or light or bugs do not trigger alerts. I did notice several companies have dropped their recommendation fr Wyze. Apparently others also care.

What other companies are offering free cameras?

I’m able to use detection zones to filter stuff I don’t want. Is it perfect? No, but for the price I paid for my cams and the research I did in advance (knowing the benefits and drawbacks of going with Wyze over others) they are perfect for my needs.

Like I said, each person needs to look at the options and determine what is best for them. Some may be served better by buying a “lifetime” MS Office version, others like me want the online storage, domain hosting, and constant updates that are included with the subscription version. Still others are fine with something like Libre Office.

Notice the 2 cameras are selected, but only one is sending false alerts.
I guess Wyze and you decided wind and cloud lighting are things customers want to be alerted about. It’s all about money…i get Wyze wants to grow their ‘Printer ink’ business as its a renewable. I also get your angle.

I don’t get any wind, cloud, or lightning alerts. If I left everything at default and left alerts enabled on all my cams, yes, I would.

Personally I do not want to use “AI” to filter things out, what if it filters out something it shouldn’t have (it is known to have false positives, which means it will have false negatives too)?

The reason only one is sending false alerts is as you’ve stated your v3 has filtering enabled, your v4 does not.

You don’t need ai to filter pixels for wind or lighting.
You adjust your algorithm.
Ai is used for faces, pets, etc…
Wind and lighting should be standard software in an outdoor security camera…like other companies. If not, why call it a security camera…its just a camera

Before wyse introduced AI, their cameras could filter better…
They just decided they wanted to move to a renewable software business. They got greedy…

They’re 100M in debt, the CEO has put his home on the line, and they just recently had their first profitable quarter. Other than that, correct.

Note: My memory-certainty has been shown to be imperfect recently. Corrections welcome.

Must be why my neighbors with much more expensive and well known brands have all but given up on their cameras due to the constant alerts and events.

Personally I would not consider this or any other cloud cam to be a “security camera”.

I’ve helped install several thousand dollar closed circuit security camera systems. Not a single one has had any sort of filtering or AI detection, just zones and sensitivity levels. So not sure why you’re including that as a prerequisite to be a “security camera”.

We get it, you are not satisfied, return the v4 and go with another company that has the features you’re looking for.

Not saying I’m going to do away with my Wyze cameras, but I can relate to the sensitivity issue, I had to turn off notifications on my front cameras due to the fact that it will pick up the shadow movement when a car drives by with its headlights on, no matter how low I set the sensitivity I can’t get rid of it every time A car goes by, I have it set so when It detects motion it activates my front porch light (with Wyze Bulb installed in it) and it will set my lights going on and off all night long.

Agreed. In fact, Wyse used to say that back in 2019.

I turn off notifications entirely. I do review events. I monitor and record. I do watch the lawn service occasionally. The lawn guys are so good, they even clean my pool, if branches or clippings drop in.
