Which OG cam would you choose first?

My solution is a 30+ year old Craftsman opener with a button. I thought I was fancy when I finally got a car with built in remote for it.

Let’s not get another magnets/EMF discussion started…

I’d tend to agree, though it is probably the only one I own that has a chance of picking up a license plate driving by, from my house which is like 10 feet off the road. I essentially ended up with the Telephoto having no use (didn’t work where I originally intended) so now it watches the street from about a 45 degree angle to both potentially catch a plate, and also see a fairly dangerous nearby intersection. It seems to be able to read plates pretty well at lower speeds, but someone rushing away from a crime it would just be a useless blur, but does get a decent image of the car and possibly even the driver depending on window tint.

I activated my first OG Cam today to replace a v2.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and information you provided.

Definitely looks better at night (1:34am).

I can even see my wind spinner.

Now you just gotta learn to hit the ā€œtake photoā€ button instead of a screen shot

Since I’m seeing both Cam OG and Cam OG Telephoto on sale at Amazon currently, I’m tempted to pick up a Cam OG Telephoto, but I don’t have a specific use case in mind. Who wants to give me some ideas and enable my unnecessary consumerism?

Have an attractive neighbor that leaves their blinds open? :grinning:

The one I have I ended up aiming at the street at about a 45 degree angle, allows the possible view of license plates (though it is hit or miss depending how fast the car is going and lighting conditions) and also a better view of faces walking along the sidewalk.

I guess you have to ask if there is a spot that you regularly zoom in on with your regular cams, and if so the OG might be a good candidate to overlook that same area so you always have a clearer zoomed in view.

None of which I’m aware, but I s’pose I should’ve expected that response, given…

That’s a good question, and I don’t have a good answer because I don’t zoom very frequently. The one potential use I’ve considered for a Cam OG Telephoto is aiming it at the CBU up the street to get an idea of when the little USPS delivery truck has arrived and departed, but then I’d probably have to mount the camera outdoors because I don’t have a year-round clear line of sight (because of foliage) to the box from any windows. That’s not not doable. I’m still thinking about it….

Personally I cannot find a reason for zoom. My neighbors are not attractive.

FWIW, even though I already picked up a Cam OG Telephoto a few weeks ago at a slightly higher price, I received a camelcamelcamel notification today showing a price of US $23.39 as of 2024-10-29T00:08:32Z, in case you’re lookin’ for another gadget to try.

Thanks. That is a good price. Might have to take a chance.

I use it to view history/trends, handy for that (though for a while it seemed to not be updating a lot of stuff). The alerts are hit or miss, amazon often changes prices by the minute, quite frustrating. Still a useful site though (along with fakespot). I guess even occasional alerts to a new low price are better than none (assuming you get to the item before the price changes again).

In fact you buying one may have driven the price back up already

Uh-oh.

That happened when I was shopping for a TV last year. By the time I saw the alert from camelcamelcamel and hopped into Amazon, the price had bounced back up. Since I was shopping for something I wanted but didn’t actually need, I just left the alert active, and within a few days or so Amazon dropped the price back down and camelcamelcamel alerted me and I bought.

I think that’s a good use of it, too. If there’s something I’m interested in tracking, I look at the history and use that to set my price threshold.

How do you set the price threshold? I don’t know why I can’t figure out the logic.

For the Cam OG Telephoto, Amazon had listed it at $29.98 when I bought it, and just for fun I set a camelcamelcamel price watch at $28.00 by just putting that number into the Desired Price field and entering my e-mail address. I didn’t expect it to drop so low so soon, so I was genuinely surprised to see the e-mail today.

Does that help, or am I missing something in the question?

In my example, there is a =, - and -%

I shared my Amazon wish list as read only. Seems like this number acts on the entire list not specifically one item, unless I reduce the list to one item.
