What’s your point? 2-3 years after that they’ll want to replace it with a v8. Yes, that’s how technology works.
However the OG is only about 2 years old, still works very well, and is extremely inexpensive. Still a perfectly valid camera to be buying today. If I needed more (already have 4 OGs and an OGT) I wouldn’t hesitate to get the same thing.
My point is v3 and v4 are dirt cheap already. Unless you know you’ll never benefit from the low light performance and is happy with crap audio and lower res, go with the old stuff and save 10$
Still not following. The OG is cheaper than both of those cameras, newer than the v3 (with much better image quality) and pretty comparable to the v4. The v4 is the newest wired cam they have.
The only reason I can see to buy a v3 is if you are using Cam Lite and need it for that. Otherwise it is obsolete and older and worse image than both the OG and v4.
I just bought another V3 for $45 tax and shipping included directly from Wyze. I know it is an older camera and everything, but I’m not a big fan of OG’s mounting options.
I have this outdoor rated 3M tape, it is a dark gray, the stuff sticks forever and you can’t pull something straight off, but if you lift one corner, it peels off easily like it was never there.
I’m too OCD with my camera alignment to risk doors slamming and wind moving the magnets around.
Didn’t even realize the base has metal in it, doesn’t seem like it does but obviously it must. For me in some places screw mounting was fine, others the double sided tape I have works great.
Based on another thread it sounds like it doesn’t work all that well
I wouldn’t count on that. Probably glue a heavy washer or magnet to the bottom. It will stand on its own but it won’t hold up to wind or anything, and I’m not sure if it would self-stand if the camera is at a downward angle (probably will). If you’re using it inside, it will be fine, as long as nothing brushes up against it. A piece of double sided 3M foam tape would take care of that concern though.
For me the image quality (blocking/blurring/ghosting with motion) on the OG was night and day vs the v3 but I guess for people with the free Lite plan the v3 is the only option left really. The integrated spotlight on the OG is a nice feature too.
Agreed. I have had Wyze cameras mounted (hanging from) the windshield of my 4x4 pickup using the included metal disk and double sided tape. Even when driving on crappy dirt “roads” I have only once had a camera dismount in about five years. Camera models are: V2, V3, V3 Pro, V4.
I can relate. I’ve used my Cam OG only indoors, and when I was using a magnet with it that was for a temporary job when I wanted to hang it upside-down in a storage room. The magnet was sufficient to keep it in place, but I’d want something more permanent outside where I live, an area that sees a lot of wind.
I didn’t, either, until I hit that other topic several months ago.
More than one, but what do I know? I use a different garage door controller solution.
I agree. When I first got the Cam v4s, I left the big mounting discs in the boxes and didn’t think I’d use them, but my initial mounting method for my use cases was insufficient, and using the discs (which I attached to mounting surfaces with 3M Command Poster Strips for easy removal) has seemed to be a better alternative.
The telephoto model is special-use IMO. I use one mounted in my garage window, looking back at the cottage from 150’ away. But it’s still a bit tighter than I would prefer, and a “zoom” lens feature would be a better option. I’d say in 90% of situations, the regular wider-angle model is more applicable
