what the actual he11 ?!?

So what the he11 …?!

I have 3 older cameras, I say “no thanks, don’t wanna firm wear update” tonight (right now) …

And now BOTH of the old V2’s cameras are now refusing to connect to the bloody wifi that rock solid and well as one of my pan cam’s … ! What the actual he11 man ???

I deleted everything in the app - reset all 3 cameras … they all say ready to connect, they all say QR code scanned and the I get the error " Try re-typing your password. If that doesn’t work, try rebooting your router and modem …

SERIOUSLY !?!?!

I can see the bloody camera pulling an address on the Unifi Console under my Client Devices !!

It’s THERE …its CONNECTED and still showing connected after 5 mins in the counter, but the app on the phone says: Nope ! Try retyping the password!

There’s the two V2’s sitting there pulling an IP right in the console … !!! (see pic)

Cheers’

Dave

If you want to stay with older firmware on your v2 cameras, you might try running an older Android App version to see if you can setup the v2 cameras. Older Wyze Android APK files can be found here.

If you get your v2 cameras setup, then determine which is the best App version to stay with to get your desired functionality.

No, You missing the point completely … It asked me about updating and I said no. Not for ever obviously, but not right now, later I’m busy !

My point/problem NOW is both of these working Wyze Cam V2’s will not reconnect at all.

- I have pulled the SD cards - I’ve hit the factory reset/install button - I’ve gone thru the app/camera setup on my phone 6 times each and NO joy …

After I check box the " QR code scanned button " the entire thing fails and craps itself and says Connection Failed over and over but the thing is I can SEE the camera grabbing an IP from my network and its showing it up and using data !?!?!

That’s the problem …both V2 camera NOW refuse to connect to the network.

OK, lets make it easier for these cameras …

Another generic router - this time an old Dlink DIR-819 router / wifi box - and its setup with both the 2.4 and 5 GHz on and running and ready to rock and connect to these two bastards …

Oh gee look!! SAME DAMM PROBLEM !!

Why won’t either of these WYZE CAM v2’s connect to anything !?!??!?

And yep, I again can see the ..;..;8E:1C:A8:6E mac address of the damm camera pulling 192.168.0.102 out of the newly setup router … and yet the app craps out and says failed. WHY ?

Let me clarify my suggestion. There are certain v2 firmware versions that will not work or connect to certain App versions. In the picture below, Wyze App versions 2.47 or lower will not connect to v2 firmware 4.9.9.3006.

You do not mention your v2 firmware version or App version, so my suggestion is just guessing what to try.

Here is the link to Wyze camera firmware in case you want to try different firmware.

I sense your frustration. I have had to jump through many hoops over the years to get my Wyze cameras to work for me too.

As @StevenA mentioned, Wyze has been changing important security features over time.

Since these are cloud dependent devices and cloud mechanics change over time, it can be critical to keep the firmware up to date for the cameras to continue to function right between the camera and the app, or even the camera and the server.

Some recent critical changes that come to mind include:

The old firmware is directed to use to a deprecated certificate that the tech industry as a whole decided they would no longer accept starting in April 2026 (3 months ago). Some platforms started to deny acceptance of this certificate now, breaking integrations, etc. In a recent post, a wise employee explained

It’s quite possible the app is trying to use the new routing but your camera is stuck on the old routing and they just aren’t communicating because you went so long not updating the firmware and they’re trying to use different forms of communication.

Another thing that’s changed in lots of the camera is the authentication protocol itself. Size used to use TUTK, but people are reporting they switched to something else. If your camera firmware only supports TUTK but the server and app no longer use those, you will have connection problems.

They have also updated the cameras to use a new verification process called verified view which embeds your credentials into the live stream so that if your app and camera steam credentials don’t match, it wont show the live stream. If your camera firmware is too old, it won’t support this and won’t embed your credentials into the live stream, so the app might reject the connection entirely.

Nine of that takes into account the other security protocols and patches that are routinely implemented.

The end result is that for a cloud dependent camera, it’s always a risk that if you don’t keep the firmware and app up to date, they will cause breakage and things stop working.

My suggestions are to either update the firmware (you may have to look up how to manually flash the firmware using the SD card), or if it’s really important to keep the old firmware, then look up how to sideloaded an older version of the Wyze app onto your android phone (you might be out of luck if you’re using an iPhone or the webview though).

That should restore your access to the camera at least. If you’d like someone to help point you in the right direction for manual flashing instructions and where to find the firmware downloads, feel free to ask. :+1:

OK, cool … SO I downloaded the firmware 4.9.9.3006 (January 16, 2024) but how do I flash the camera?

The only thing that’s in the D/L is the bin file … so how can I connect to the camera to install it?
Is it the type where you load the bin file to an SD card and then boot the camera off of it? Is there an official how-to published some place?

I’ll take a stab at it but my main question STILL is why would they just stop working anyway? They are Ver 2’s so they’ve been running for a few years just fine, so what did WYZE do to brick them?

Check out this video.

Cool …Thanks …

Formatting the SD card now … fingers crossed

I have had good liuck flashing Wyze cameras with 32GB size Mirco SD cards. Sometimes older Wyze cameras do not like larger cards.

I had something similar happen. Turns out I had forgotten that I changed my wifi password word but it was trying to connect with the saved old password.
