What Palm Lock Keyway for lock cylinder/

I would like to know what lock key way the cylinder has for the manual key? Is it Schlage or Kwik?

As quoted above, if you click the drop down: Schlage SC1.

Pardon my ignorance, what is the importance/difference what key way the lock is using?

I think it’s because the anatomy of the key varies some between manufacturers. For instance, a blank that you’d get to make a key for a Kwikset lock has a different shape and configuration of grooves on the blade than a blank for a Schlage lock. If a user already has all of the locks on a house using the same key and wants to put a Wyze Palm Lock on one door but continue to use the same physical key as a backup or as a means of access control, then knowing about the keyway and cylinder could be very important for maintaining the relative simplicity of managing the system.

Does Wyze allow me to order 3 locks and all would have same key? Want to avoid locksmith rekey for 2 of 3 locks.

I’ve had the same question and don’t know the answer. I think it’d be cool if they would sell “keyed-alike” bundles on their site for users who want the same physical key.

What has Support said when you asked them?

I see, thanks for clarifying. I wish Wyze would also sell matching knob/handle.

Oh, yeah, or different finishes to match existing door hardware would be nice.

Thank you @kfansler @Crease @habib for questions.

  1. You can rekey all 2-3 palm locks to use same sc1 key. I have seen people doing that on youtube and it is harder than he thought and took almost a day to finish all these springs and balls coming from the keyway. That’s why I think hiring a locksmith could make it easier..
  2. We are considering to add handles and levers with matching color in the future. Could collect more info from you. Do you prefer ball knob? Lever? or the long handle?

I don’t have a solid preference. The house I moved into a few years ago had a Kwikset 909 electronic deadbolt with a matching lever in Satin Nickel finish on the front door and what looks like a fairly typical keyed knob in Venetian Bronze finish on the door from the garage. I discovered shortly after the move-in that both locks had Kwikset SmartKey cylinders, so I got the tool and re-keyed those myself. Now I have one lock with a Schlage-type keyway and another with a Kwikset keyway, so I understand why there have been questions about that.

This garage door didn’t have a deadbolt when I moved in, but I’ve since drilled, cut, and mortised the door and jamb for one and will probably install a Palm Lock on that door, as well. (I really like the Auto-Lock and Lock After Hours features.) I don’t have any current plans to change the other door hardware (the lever and the knob), and I’m not really bothered by the different finishes, but if I wanted to change that at some point I’d probably switch to a Matte Black knob in the garage and look for a more contemporary Matte Black lever for the front door.

When I made my previous comment, I was thinking about how something like Duo Cam Doorbell has been available in Black and Silver versions, and some customers have expressed strong preferences for one or the other. I think the 3D-printing community has provided solutions there that allow users to fabricate a cover in the color of their choice and just “skin” the doorbell, but that might not be the best solution for trying to get Palm Lock to match other door hardware.

:light_bulb: Now that I think about that, though, if someone would design a close-fitting “shell” to fit snugly against Palm Lock’s exterior assembly, then that might be something users could print and semi-permanently attach in order to conceal the sliding door that covers the mechanical keyway. The user would have a choice of color (depending on what filament is used if this was a 3D-printed model, for example), and that might at least partially satisfy @carverofchoice’s goals by providing additional concealment to the keyway. A determined attacker is likely to just break this cover, but that would provide some evidence of tampering and wouldn’t be permanently disabling the keyway or its sliding cover with glue. :man_shrugging:

Matching hardware would be cool, though, especially if the designers come up with something that would complement[1] the Palm Lock’s appearance, like a lever with angles that echo Palm Lock’s exterior assembly or a squarish knob with rounded corners that reflect Palm Lock’s angles and contours.

I have definitely been wanting a smart door handle lock.

I will say that I tried one off Amazon that was a long handle which used AA or AAA batteries, but the batteries died fast and it didn’t perform well in cold weather (It was on the door between my garage and the back yard) and the feature set was not really great. It seemed like I only had the option for it to always be locked (minus half a second after entering the code). The batteries died so fast (even without ever using the doorhandle…so the suspend/hibernation mode wasn’t very effective) that I just gave up and stopped using it entirely. I finally just put a normal doorknob back on the door and drilled a deadbolt hole in the metal door and now have a Wyze Palm Lock on there! :tada: I am much more satisfied with that.

But I would totally love to have a good smart door handle (knob, long handle, lever…I am not too picky), that I could put on a lot of indoor doors (my master bedroom, the home offices for myself and my wife, the utility room, maybe even the basement walk-in pantry/storage room. Possibly even the kids’ bedrooms (ie: they can lock their siblings out of their room but still allow us parents access when needed). I’d probably put a good smart door handle on lots of doors if you can figure out the fast battery drain problem and offer added smart features.

Huge bonus if it’s matter compliant or works with home assistant in some way. Though if it at least integrates with Alexa, then I guess I can do a workaround to get it into Home Assistant (expose binary entity helpers from Home Assistant to Alexa and just have Alexa make them match the status of the lock from the Alexa Wyze integration).

I personally have no preference but my wife prefers handles as she suffers from debilitating arthritis and has a hard time turning knobs. We’ve replaced all knobs in the house with handles.

This is what I used and it matches great.

My comment was about different finishes for Palm Lock to match the finish of hardware that someone might already have on the door, but I can see you went the other way to get your door hardware to match Palm Lock.

That probably makes more sense, actually. Changing Palm Lock’s finish might detract from its Sith-esque æsthetic.

I replied in a different thread but here’s one nice one I bought: Kwikset Singapore at Amazon.
