We’re updating the price of Cam Plus Monthly in late June — here’s why (Cam Plus Annual prices will not change.) 5/17/23

My goal was, and is, to get notifications of person events. That did not work, I got random event notifications of sounds and lights. I tried setting the sensitivity down untill I got nothing, then creep it back up untill I got notifications but it didn’t help. You could walk in front of the camera and it wouldn’t trigger an event/notification.

I walked in front of two cameras, fast and slow. Neither camera picked up the action. Recording is sporadic at best. Can’t depend on them.

Eric, do you have any form of CamPlus on the cameras?
Do you have a uSD card installed and if yes, how is it configured for recording?

Annual plan of CamPlus

Are you sure you have the setting correct? Recording is on, you have not set a detection area or set the detection to very low? I have over 30 cameras over 6 family houses and while Wyze does get fooled that shadows are people, we never miss movement. Even the ones on the lite program will pick up things after the 5 min cool, no issues.

This is typical of all my cameras.

I spent longer than I wanted to with support. Nothing got it to work. This was in thier transformation time frame after loosing the deal with Apple and trying to go on thier own. And developing the app. I was on the beta testing and all worked then. When they launched the app and told us we could get on for zero dollars is when it all quit working. I spent way to much time on a $20.00 camera and that is when I gave up.

Your screenshot doesn’t provide much detail as to how well tuned your cam is. It is one of the important areas, but the important settings are obscured by the volume.

Most users plug it in, install it, point it at something, assign it to Cam Plus, and expect it to do exactly what they think it should do. While these cams may be inexpensive, the settings to fine tune performance is very indepth and absolutely necessary for peak performance. While it may seem like they are Plug-N-Play, they are not Plug-N-Perform Well.

The settings important to your experience:

  1. Cam Motion Sensitivity
  2. Detection Zone Boundaries
  3. Smart Detection Event Recording
  4. Notification Settings
  5. Event Page Filters

I tried to sign up for cam plus lite. It says my address is not formated properly. The same address I have had when I got the camera, saved in the app. Also no camera assigned. Now I have to start over.

I am sorry, but what does user error have to do with this topic?

technically my post described a generic speculative dystopian nightmare…‘delightful yarns’ are often much more terrifying in my experience.

i 100% agree nothing comes for free (except maybe opinions) and would add similar truisms such as “free range poultry isn’t free”, “free beer isn’t free” and “freedom itself is never free”… so we are on the same page there RoboNaught.

Wyze can and will do what they want in a free market economy (which thankfully are not free) and they should - under normal conditions if consumers continue to give them money Wyze will continue to exist.

I’m not calling any of that into question. There’s excellent talent at Wyze doing excellent things. But somewhere in the business decision-making management chain there’s a lack of vision, or a laziness, or a trend following short term thinking insanity which has infected the business making minds of business strategies almost everywhere.

usually it’s Pride before the Fall but ‘everyone knows subscription services are a no brainer’ so like all of the worst most horrible and far reaching idea-cum-disasters in history, it’s actually uncritical acceptance of an ‘obviously true’ idea (or collective stupidity) before the Fall.

Life might be a lot of quotable quippy clever sounding things, but it cannot be a subscription service as you suggested. not because i don’t want it to be or whatever, but because Life isn’t a no brainer with endless fine print and slippery terms of service benefiting unseen powers propped up by clever market strategists that don’t understand what they’re marketing by exploiting the universal human reasoning shortcomings we all possess…Life doesn’t have opinions or strategies or expectations or needs or premium plans or share holders because Life is literally the sum total of an unbelievable chain of successful self-sustainability without a weakest link (other than maybe the dependency on the lifespan of the universe). subscriptions are not sustainable at any level.

subscriptions are things - unlike toil, currencies and labor - that ironically can be free (such as my own free Wyze Lite sub allowing me use of purchased cameras in the manner intended) - and things, like us, if not robust or useful, enter a state that is the exact opposite of Life.

unfortunately Death is a bargain - unsurprisingly Death’s reaper has no use for subscriptions services when managing that most successful, sustainable business of them all.

I love all my 18 wyze cameras but as of 3 days ago I’m only getting person notification out of four cameras and once again my ring cameras are 100% reliable come on guys how can I recommend your product when I have to rely on ring. All I want is the cameras to work properly.

Why wasn’t people told this , im just now seeing this because i neber knew there was this platform and i didnt know i had to look here for this information, but i went back to using wyze after they got outdoor cameras ans i could afford the price but now u have raised the costs drastically ans limited us to 3 cams for cam plus so those who only need 4 now are better off eith another company because paying 130 a yr for 4 cameras is out right expensive and un realistic. Im a single disabled mom and i dont even get any kind of help or assistance and live in a very unsafe area and needed a decent working camera system etc now for the 5th time i have to find another service because i cant afford to stay with yall. If i had been told the offer to get that plan and it stay at its lower cost i would have done so but nope never told and now once again screwed. Ur current customers that were customers before a major price hike should have been grandfathered in but nope the company so greedy they disnt appreciate their current customers, but if u look around u will see ur losing tons of customers and u will lose tons of possible customers because no one wants to be forced to pay 130 a month for 4 or 5 cameras and u dont allow them to have more than 3 on cam plus so thr people who need more tha. 3 and less than 6 will only be taken advantage of . It would be great if u guys also had a service for those on disability as were limited to what we can afford and we deserve affordable security like everyone else but ur plans are no longer affordable for those like me. But ur losing customers even long term ones over ur control issues and greed

For more than a few cameras, get CamPlus Unlimited. Last I looked, it’s $99 per year for almost unlimited number of cameras (99).

That’s right, actually we REMOVED the 99 camera limit.

You can literally have unlimited cameras on your account, there is no cap at all.

Cam plus is completely useless now! Yall have got greedy now u limit how many cameras we get , then u say get cam unlimited for all the better features with 24/7 monitoring just to find out thats a scam too, all thr features advertised arnt even on it , its just cam plus features for 130 bucka a year!
People need to stop using this company to make yall stop with the ridiculous prices , ur now more expensive than the high end companies and u dodnt even have a variety of cameras yet. Wow

I think there are a lot of misunderstandings here…

You can have unlimited cameras (I’m already over 50)

If you mean for single Cam Plus Licenses, why on earth would anyone with more than 3 cameras want to pay for more individual licenses anyway? Regular price of Cam Plus is $2.99/mo per camera (if you order from the website instead of through the app). If you have 4 cameras and get Cam Unlimited yearly instead for $99, that’s only $2 per camera instead of $3 per camera. And Wyze regularly does promotions to knock Cam Unlimited down to just $89/yr which would be even cheaper ($1.85/yr per camera for 4 cameras, or even cheaper with more cameras up to unlimited…I have over 50 cameras, so that’s less than $0.15 per camera per month!!! That’s a freaking awesome deal for me). We’ve actually had people making posts MAD at Wyze for not telling or forcing them onto Cam Unlimited when it made more sense financially. They blamed the company for ALLOWING them to get lots of single licenses instead of forcing them to make their bill cheaper…so now Wyze doesn’t let people waste money with too many single licenses when it doesn’t make any financial sense to do so. And there is no camera limit on Cam Unlimited. AND it gives extra features.

I recommend you stop ordering subscriptions through Apps for any company. Google and Apple charge a 30% “Convenience” Fee. If you order subscriptions through a company’s website instead of through an app, it’s usually way cheaper. For example, for Wyze’s Cam Unlimited which we’re currently talking about, it’s only $99/yr (or $89/yr sometimes) instead of $130 because you don’t have to pay Apple/Google Extortion fees…er taxes for doing almost nothing…er royalties.

Which company is offering cloud storage subscriptions better and cheaper that you would like Wyze to emulate?

  • Ring charges $5/mo for a single camera or $50/yr, and $100/yr for unlimited devices (at one location), so way more for single licences and about the same for unlimited (though they charge way more for hardware and they basically don’t work if you ever stop the subscription)
  • Arlo is $80 for one camera or $180 for unlimited, so way more.
  • Wyze isn’t charging an abnormal amount when compared to the industry average, especially with the extra features they include.

What other kind of camera are you looking for? They have more camera models than almost ALL of their competitors. Which competitor has a larger variety that you’d like them to emulate? What do you have in mind? We can probably direct you to the wishlist post for that item to add your support to it.

They could certainly increase their offerings to other kinds of cameras too. I, for one, would really like them to make a Dashcam, and maybe an automated drone (flying or ground robot), and many other things. One of the founders were recently soliciting suggestions on more types of cameras we’d like them to make. Go add your suggestions here since they’re looking to expand their variety:

As someone who owns a business that has to pay cloud storage and processing rates through Amazon, I can tell you that Wyze is not ripping people off with their subscription costs.

We all want things to be cheaper, but they aren’t treating us unfairly. I hope some of the above helps with some misunderstandings or to explain the pricing a little better. You could definitely save yourself a lot of money by ordering through their website instead of through Apple/Google though so you don’t have to pay those 30% markup fees. That might help you feel a little better about the pricing. Then the unlimited plan is way worth it if you have 4 or more cameras or are planning to get more.
