We’re Giving Wyze Person Detection to All Users at Whatever Price You Want - 1/11/22

RTSP fanboy here, as well. While I understand yetanotherscott’s purpose in subscribing to CamPlus, I’d prefer to see a “pay what you want” subscription specifically for RTSP so Wyze has a way to track supporters who do not need nor want any of the Wyze’s Cloud stuff nor notifications but, instead, prefer to have their own software-of-choice (Blue Iris in my case) do the heavy lifting of 24/7 recording and notifications.

I’ve already offered to contribute to their coffee fund but let’s make it official, right?

I’ve seen the chart and read through the notes, but I haven’t seen this called out yet as “what happens” as an end user:

Right now I have no cloud storage/AI of any kind, but on my Wyze client I have an Events area where I go and see a list of events that happened on a cam.

What happens if I don’t opt in for Cloud storage?

  • Do I still have an Events area?
  • If I do have that section, is it correct that I’ll get a thumb nail that I can click and be sent to time date stamp on the SD-card stored video?

Thanks!

The ‘Events’ area is the cloud storage, everything under ‘Events’ your are pulling from the cloud. If you do not opt in those event videos will become just thumbnails and you will have to see the videos on the SD card. If you do opt in everything will work as it does now except you will have Person Detection also added to your cams. Does that explain it?

It’s because designing things for human interaction in a digital space is really really hard to get right and most companies put more emphasis on moving fast and breaking things than polishing the experience especially if you have very limited engineering resources.

The problem with being friends with your users is most users don’t want to be friends.

Interesting point.

I actually use the RTSP firmware on the devices with Blue Iris.

Im an ee of 40 years. I work on cell phone modules. I can validate both your comments on very tought to get right for the customer as well as companies rushing things before their time !

There is no “post pandemic” as of yet…

I 2nd that.

I have a question… Why are we unable to access the videos on our SD cards via software without having to remove them and put them in another device?

You can by using the ‘View Playback’ button although since I have been on the forum awhile I am guessing you mean the actual files so you can download them without pulling the SD card. I do not know why that has not been implemented or what, if any, the complications are in achieving that. I will let the team know there is a large push for that now that Cam Plus Lite is happening.

Ok, I signed up and already paid. So how do I know Cam Plus Lite is working for me?

Go in Account/CamPlus lite of your application.

Paying annually for choose your own price is really the way to go. It cuts down heavily on credit card transaction fees that cost Wyze a piece of that money. Would really help Wyze with the margins on this and that will help us users!!

I have recommended that to the team, Thank You

So with CPL, does that mean Person Detection has to be turned on?

I have a few outdoor cameras where I want it to detect cars driving up to my house. But there will rarely be “people” walking up to the house via this route. So I’d still like it to record (12 seconds to the cloud) if it detects non-person movement.

You can have it still do motion detection notifications for any motion, not just people just like you’re used to. Your choices will be:

  1. Notifications for all motion just like it’s always been
  2. Notifications only when it detects a person
  3. Both together; get notifications when it detects a person and also still get notifications about all other motion events too.

I suggest having both in your situation. You won’t lose anything, you’ll just get the added benefit of it also telling you when the recordings included a person, but you’ll still get all the other notifications as normal too.

A person who wants everything to continue as it always has without person detection, should just leave person detection disabled and all motion enabled. A person who wants both should leave both selected and turned on. A person who only wants person notifications just selects person and deselects motion in the notification settings. All 3 options are possible.

Waiting for Cam Plus Pro Max…

Sure they can. Why not? Tons of Patreon supported people ALSO have tons of paid commercials on their podcasts or streams. Tons of open source based companies charge tons of money for support and for services. Heard of IBM / Redhat? Open source companies may also CHARGE for software. I mean, you may not approve (and I agree it’s incongruous and the upselling is sketchy) but it’s hardly a *binary" thing. Hell even PBS has blatant ads now in addition to fundraising and pledge drives.

I prefer CamNePlusUltra and/or CamDoublePlusGood.

I have Cam Plus Lite (PD Legacy) on my application is that it?
