I was looking at the core starter kit, No where does it say what it comes with. I had to resort to asking their AI what it comes with. The picture lies, If I had trusted this picture, I would have believed it came with the Hub, 2 entry sensors, a motion sensor and the keypad. But NOPE! The AI told me it comes with the Hub, 1 entry, 1 motion sensor and 3 months of HMS. Very Deceptive picture.
So, I’ve had a Ring security system for years, and just found out next spring they are going to raise the price for monitored service. Double it! I have 1 Ring Camera, wait 2 Ring cameras in use still a peep hole doorbell camera and 1 original battery cam which is redundant with a Wyze cam now. So I’m looking at if I have to pay an extra $100 a year for the alarm monitoring, I might as well look at moving everything over to Wyze.
The question is, should I? Or should I go to a traditional security company for alarm service now? I have Wyze, and a few other RTSP capable cameras.
Do the wyze sensors, work with home automation with Amazon routines, or HA?
I have bought multiple HMS starter kids and they always came with 1 hub, 2 contact sensors, 1 motion sensor, and a keypad. I think the AI is the thing giving you false information. I believe the picture is correct because that’s what all of my starter kits have come with.
The Wyze sensors do work with Alexa routines.
To get Wyze sensors to work in Home Assistant, you have to also Integrate Alexa into Home Assisant (the free option takes a little bit of work but is free, and the Nabu Casa subscription makes it quick and easy), then create a virtual sensor that can be toggled on/off then expose that sensor to Alexa. Now you have alexa make the virtual sensors match the status of the Wyze sensors. You tell Alexa that when the Wyze sensor opens, it should open the HA virtual sensor. When it closes, it should close the HA virtual sensor. Now all the Wyze sensors work in Home Assistant too.
If you have the HMS subscription with Wyze, you can also add arming/disarming into Home Assistant through the third party Wyze Integration found in the Home Assistant Community Store.
Well, I sure wish I could get someone from Wyze to confirm the picture / your version, instead of what the AI told me. I ask the AI why the picture shows that, and it said, sorry for the confusion, it is showing optional add on stuff, and doubled down on what it comes with. It’s insane it doesn’t tell you on the product page what is in the bundle!
It appears so. I haven’t had any issues since Spring time, and I was getting them A LOT between October to Spring time, and they suddenly went away. I haven’t restarted my hub in half a year now, even though I have lost power and internet a few times.
But since Fix it Friday is suspended, we haven’t seen an official report on it from Wyze yet. But I haven’t seen anyone in any of the platforms posting that their hub is stuck offline like we were getting in the winter time. It seems pretty clear the issue was related to the back end and they fixed it or we’d keep seeing those posts.
Weird, I should have done a screen shot of the AI, because it lied to me, I just checked and yep it shows what it showed you. I think someone trained it better. LOL
Yeah. even if it comes with “x months free” for any reason, I believe you can just refuse to setup the subscription. Lots of people did this when they first launched and required the subscription. Other people would set it up and then immediately cancel. Recently they started selling these without a subscription at all sometimes, but if they absolutely include it in whichever package you buy, just don’t set it up &/or cancel it and it will never charge you, so no big deal if it’s something you don’t want.
The last one I got for another account didn’t force me to setup the subscription.
