View camera on a standalone base device

I have cubby bed for my special needs son that has a wyze camera in it.
I do NOT want my toxic mother to have access to the camera from her phone or any other device when she comes to watch him.

I am looking for a standalone viewing screen with battery and volume that can connect to the camera that I can leave on in the home.

The link below is an image example of the screen I am talking about.

Welcome to the Forum, @OMGHAD!

If I understand what you’re trying to accomplish, then I have a few ideas about viewing your Wyze Cam v3’s Live Stream, and I’m sure other Forum members might have other suggestions:

  • For a portable solution, you could just get an inexpensive Android tablet, install the Wyze app on that, create a secondary Wyze account to use with the app on that tablet, and then share the Cam v3 to that account. If you do it this way, then whoever is using the tablet will have access to some features and be able to view the Live Stream but wouldn’t be able to change settings for the camera or view microSD card recordings (if you’re recording to local storage).
  • If you want something that’s going to be more like a stationary monitoring location, then you could try Google Home. You could set up a home in the Google Home app and link your Wyze account to that, and this would let you do a number of things:
    • You can add and remove Household members from your Google Home at will. While someone is a Household member, he or she should be able to stream live video only (no other camera controls) from the Wyze camera in the Google Home app…as long as this person is using an Android device. As far as I know, this feature is still broken for Google Home app on iOS (there are many Forum posts related to this), and I don’t have any idea if or when that might be remedied. When you no longer want someone to have access to any of your Google Home devices (camera included), just remove that person from your Household.
    • You can stream live video from your Wyze camera to a Google Nest (Home) Hub smart display, which is like a smart speaker with a touch screen. This is a plug-in device, though—not battery powered, so it’s not something that someone would carry around but would provide a screen if someone was going to be stationary for a while and needed to periodically check in and see the camera’s view.
    • You can add a Chromecast device to a TV (plug in to HDMI) and cast your camera’s feed to that TV and use it as a large monitor screen. Again, this is more of a stationary solution, but Chromecast devices are small and portable, so they can be moved from TV to TV as needed.

As much as I like Google Home, one potential strike against it is that Household members are all essentially administrators, meaning that any member of a Household can change settings on connected devices at the limit of what Google Home allows. For instance, if you have smart bulbs that you set up, someone else can move those to a different virtual “room” within the Google Home app, rename them, etc. The Google Home app does not give someone access to the full settings for something like a Wyze camera, so another user would not be able to go change, say, notification settings for the camera in Google Home, nor could this person unlink your Wyze account from Google Home (only the person who linked it in the first place can do that, as far as I’m aware), but that kind of access to other smart home devices might give someone pause, so I want you to be aware.

I think in this case I might just lean toward a lower-end Android tablet with a secondary Wyze account if you’re looking for a portable dedicated monitor, but I’m not sure that I fully understand your needs here. Maybe someone else will chime in with other ideas.
