Video Doorbell

Does anyone have an official reference for the cooldown time on this? So far I’ve only seen guesses that the cooldown is 5 min, and others guessing it is 1 min. Anyone find documentation on this anywhere?

I would guess that the cooldown only applies to automated events (ie: it recognizes motion through the lens on its own), and that there would be no cooldown period for the button press itself.

For that matter, what happens if someone presses the button over and over again? Will it pop up a new notification for each press? Will pressing on the first notification still be valid, or is only the last notification the valid link (this happens with some companies), or will it only show the most recent notification, and overwrite the earlier one (My Eufy cam alerts work this way). What if someone presses the button while you are talking to them on the video doorbell with the feed live? Does it break up and reconnect? Hopefully the beta-testers checked out these potential buggy situations for them.

Speaking of the Video Doorbell and beta testers… WyzeGwendolyn said they were going to be posting about accepting new betatesters soon, so I’ve been watching this thread voraciously, and next thing you know they jump right to selling the units instead…Did they just pick people without doing a submission? I mean, I already applied as a general beta tester long ago, but with other products they’ve required specific application for the specific product too, and they never came back telling us they were ready, etc. as implied. Sadness, I would’ve been happy to help them figure out issues and use cases like in my previous post…I’ve done QA testing professionally after all. Ah well, will get it in Jan/Feb at least.

It seems they choose people from the list of people who have signed up to be beta testers and they send out invites to a bunch via email. Then it’s kinda first come first serve until they reach the amount they want. After that you get the item shipped to you and get access to the beta test area along with a new test app to download.

Makes sense. That allows them to keep their testing diversified too…you know, make sure to pick some people in freezing Alaska, pick some in Scorching desert areas, and some in alternating climates, and normal situations…they can just keep a list of demographic variables and say they want so many from each. They probably have some favorites too…people they’ve worked with before who helped out well and use them as primary testers who get preference. I know at least 1 or 2 people in this forum are from my area and alpha/beta test several products for them already (multiple products), which indicates they have favorites and probably means I’ll never get picked, but oh well. It is what it is, and they gotta do what’s best for them, especially when they find a good tester.

Any testers have any comments about the doorbell view using the wedge to change the angle? My doorbell is on a wall perpendicular to the door itself which has been deal breaker for me when considering a video doorbell.

I thought the same thing. I signed up a while ago and finally got picked luckily. Don’t think I’m allowed to say what for though, due to the NDA. So hold on to hope, you might get picked soon too!

I think once you get picked, they see if you complete the activities when asked and that goes into determination if you get selected again for another. Makes sense they want to get the most out of it, especially when they are sending out free products to test

I used the wedge. That angled the doorbell enough for me to see the approach to my door. The front walk is parallel to the house. I will try to add a couple of shot for a better reference. The top photo is the view from the doorbell. As you can see I can see part of the approaching sidewalk. The next photo is of the front of the house as seen by one of my WCOs.

That looks like a pretty decent angle change. Unfortunately my doorbell is in kind of a bad spot for a door bell camera. If It was located on the other side of my door I think it would work well with the wedge and get most of my area of interested. As it is now I think the wedge would only change the view from wall to wall and a bit of fence

Amazon has a lot of angle adapters for different video doorbells they will probably come out with one for the wyze

So you cannot use your legacy chimes? I currently have three legacy chime wired to each floor (lower level, main floor, 2nd floor) and a button in the garage and the front door. So do I need to get a replacement chime for each floor and two wyze video doorbells (front door, and garage).

??

Oh, thanks for the great idea, I think I’ll put a chime or Google home in my garage and backyard covered patio area, I’ve missed people coming to my house while in the garage and in the backyard…never have to worry about that again! That’s awesome.

The way my entryway is designed just won’t work that well with a video doorbell I think. The door and door bell is in a sheltered arch. Here are some pictures for reference. Picture 2 is taken from my phone where my doorbell is looking straight ahead. Picture 3 there is about a 45 degree angle from the door bell. Picture 4 is the view from my V2 which is on the side opposite the doorbell (the better side)

Kinda think your solution is staring you in the face? Put a video doorbell where your V2 is. You may be able to use the same wire, but double check the gauge. Just run it to a 16 V or higher doorbell transformer instead of 5V USB adapter. (Or re-route the existing doorbell wiring if feasible.). I mean, not much difference if the button is on the left wall or the right…

Hmm interesting solution. Rerouting the existing door bell wiring is not an option but powering using the wiring for the V2 might be ok. I’d have to cover up/remove the old doorbell to avoid confusion though.

Your front yard is beautiful.

I agree with Customer that you can just put it where the V2 is.

Still, why can’t you just use a wedge where the doorbell is and have it angle facing forward?

Thanks! I can take 0 responsibility for the yards appearance .

I guess a wedge in the current bells location would bother me as I’m use to being able to see the gate, the path and the yard from the V2. Replacing the bell in the current location would at best just show the path and the gate.

On second look you seem to be using a long flat USB cable so I think you’d be better off running new doorbell / thermostat wire. It seems you just have it going to that outdoor outlet and around the door frame, so it should be quick to rerun. As to the existing bell button, you could just clip your V2 right there in its place…

I’d definitely give the wedge a shot. It worked better for me then I expected.

I only have a 15 degree wedge on the doorbell I have, it made a big difference, it works in my situation
Yours is in unusual situation.
I was just thinking you could put the video doorbell right on the siding out front on the right, but you probably don’t wanna do that

I have a strange situation also, my light switches are not by my doors , so, The only way for me to hook up a wired one would be to run wires up the wall into the attic and all that and I was not gonna do that .
So.I just got a battery powered video doorbell
