All of the Mods and Mavens here including me are just users like you who volunteer our time to help others. The only info I have is what has been shared in this thread so far which is that they are currently testing a product. Usually we will not know it is ready until they announce it being on sale for Early Access purchase.
Whatever you do, please design a smart Door Bell that is not noticeable, so people’s first reaction won’t be like one is spying on them. Many people who have chosen your brand we do live in flats inside buildings and whilst we want, and have the right, to look after our safety, we do not want to annoy our neighbours or disrupt the aesthetic lines of the communal areas. Therefore, if you can design a smart door bell that does not look like there is a lens and a movement sensor, or lights flashing, that would be great. Also a way to choose colours (wood, gold, brown, etc) and not just white or black, would be very useful to seamlessly integrate it to a door frame for instance, without the device being too noticeable.
I can see in certain places like condo associations that aesthetics may over ride practicality. I’m guessing once it’s out, 3rd parties will make skins for those looking to make it less obtrusive or blend with certain decor. Probably could cut sections from a smartphone skin as well. But in general, a lens is going to be visible on any doorbell cam device. I think more people want to make would be thrives aware they are being watched.
I would want people to know that I’m watching them. Also Wyze has already made the doorbell so fi your asking for them to change how the doorbell looks that probably won’t happen.
Will there be an early buying opportunity for current customers, like there has been for other products? I don’t want to miss this. Has Wyze considered a pre-order page?
No personal affiliation with Wyze.
That said with prior problems with delays in receiving shipments from the manufacturers or receiving products and having them fail Wyze in-house quality control checks. Wyze has stated in the past that they will refrain from having pre-orders.
Even with the early access, people complain about delayed shipments. There are almost daily posts by somebody because earlier estimates said that a product will be available by xx date and because of one delay or another the product is not ready for public consumption.
Once the product has passed through the testing and Wyze has a supply of consumer ready devices and they have passed QC checks, history shows they will be offered up to existing customers through the app and website before being released to the general public.
What i find disappointing about how wyze is handling this is that they have had the opportunity to satisfy multiple wishlist items by throwing the doorbell market a curve ball.
Finish your outdoor camera (wishlist item #1)
Make the wyze button that can be programmed for any function to control any wyze device (Wishlist item 2)
Make an optional battery pack that can plug into ANY wyze camera for battery powered operation (wishlist item #3)
put the battery on the outdoor camera (if desired), place the camera any place desired near the front door (right at the door, in a covered corner, on the door, whatever), and have the wyze button be placed near the door, programmed to activate the door camera, sound a chime from connected devices (other cameras in the home, google home, alexa or homekit devices), and activate notification to phones.
This has INSTEAD, turned into a delayed item with limited functionality which will not allow anyone without existing doorbell hardwires to use a wyze device.
For a small company, the route taken appears wasteful, has caused serious delays in delivery of desired products, and even the final product appears to be half baked and limited.
Really disappointed in the lack of efficiency and creativity which should be at the core of a small tech company’s identity when taking on big companies with more resources and advertising.
The doorbell cam should be integrated with the deadbolt. Should also have Motion detection 2 sockets for bulb top of door cam. Any motion turns lights on at like 2000 k, person detection kicks them up to 6700k undimmed, starts recording both cams. Authentic deadbolt unlock signal makes the lights flash green and all resets to standby. Facial recognition or other biometrics be good.
Really don’t need a WYZE scale !! Wyze Team lets get wise , time to develop the WYZE door bell cam !! With two way speaker Intergration and all the bells and whistles. I’ll be first in line to purchase.
Like @PyDust20 said, that’s about two months ago. I’m going to imagine things have slowed down significantly right now, though, so it’s possible that’s still close to current.
I know alpha testing is well underway. And I’d guess that beta testers have already been selected. But is there anything we do to get on an Early Access list? Thanks.
