I mostly have v3 cameras but a couple of my cams are v2. I am wanting to upgrade them but right now buying a v4 is cheaper than getting v3. I am seeing a lot of complaints about the v4. It almost looks like the v4 uses a different viewing interface than the v3 as well. And I am seeing complaints from people about being forced into subscriptions to be able to view what they used to be able to see on the v3 for free. Are these complaints accurate or being blown out of proportion? Any issues mixing the v3 with the v4? Thanks.
The V2 and V3 use the “old” user interface, whereas any of the cameras introduced in the past few years (the V4, V3 Pro, V3 Pan, OG, and a few others) use the “new” UI. The new UI works fine, but it is different. Most of the complaints are because people have not learned the differences. I have many cameras on both so I have no issue using either the new of old UI - although I do prefer the old UI.
As for subscriptions, if you use CamPlus lite with your older cameras, that is no longer available for the newer cameras. For CamPlus functionality, it does require a paid subscription. If you have a µSD card installed in your camera, that works as it did before and does NOT require a subscription. I have CamPlus Unlimited for my about 50 cameras and every one has a µSD card set to continuous recording.
I have a mix of cams like you. I recently added a v4 and OG. I do not use any subscription but save to micro SD without any apparent issue. I recommend buying one and give it a try.
