V3 cam setup wont get past red/blue blinking light

I’ve had my cameras in storage for a few months and just now got to setting them back up. 1) I have a new wifi connection, name and router. 2) I have had 4 cameras set up: 2 V2’s connected and 2 V3’s failed.

I can’t get past the initial step of pressing the setup button and having the “ready to connect” words be spoken. Both cameras (v3 and v3 pro) have their lights blinking red/blue. I’ve tried at least 10 different things to get them past that step including different bricks, different cords, press for 10, 20 and 30 seconds, wait for 5 minutes, wait for 10 minutes. Nothing has worked.

Been awhile since I have setup a v3, if you hear Ready To Connect is the camera not scanning the QR code in your App?

So you do actually hear the “ready to connect”? After that you should be holding the QR code in front of the camera. If it isn’t reading the QR code, make sure your phone’s screen doesn’t have zoom enabled as it may be cutting off the code.

I do not hear the “ready to connect” at all. It’s like the v3’s are stuck in some startup step right after the red light goes from solid red and before going to blinking red (which is what it needs to continue the setup process) but instead just blinks red/blue.

Did you delete the cams from the app? What about the new router, is it 2.4g or 5g or a combination 2.4/5? I assume you are pressing and holding the setup button for the necessary time to do a factory reset?

I would suggest a delete from the app completely the attempt the factory reset. Make certain you are operating only in the 2.4 band on your phone for the network.

OK that makes sense then. Red/blue flashing means trying to connect to wifi, so they’re not entering setup mode, they’re just looking for your previous network.

Maybe it was humid in storage and the contacts under those buttons have corroded. You can try using something pointy but not sharp) to push the button more firmly and even try to move it around/angling the pressure.

But it may be easier if you remember your previous wifi info to set up a guest network with that network name and password. Then the cameras will come online, and you can either do the “change network” process in the app, or delete them (which will factory reset them and put them into “ready to connect” mode).

I deleted all cams from the app first. I pressed and held the setup button for 10/20/30/60 seconds at different times. I have a router that is 2.4/5 bands. placing the cams on the 2.4 band. I installed 4 cams today. The two v2 cams worked fine. The two v3 cams both failed with the same problem.

hmmm. I’ll have to ask the wife if she remembers the names. That’s a good idea to try though.

Deleting from the app only works to reset the cams if they’re currently on the network. But as soon as they do connect back to the network, I think they’ll get the reset command from the wyze servers.

If you still have the network stored in any devices, many OSes let you recover the password, so that may be one way to find it.

If pushing the setup button once doesn’t give you the “ready to connect”, the button isn’t working, so it won’t work for factory reset either. But pushing it harder with something might work.

Red light followed by alternating red and blue is just the normal startup procedure where it is waiting to connect to the wifi network currently programmed into it. So if you can get that network back online, they should all connect to it.

my big worry is that its a software/update issue. I’ve bought a sd card in order to flash the devices according to Wyze’s direction. But trying the wifi thing is my first option. thanks.

You won’t be able to do SD card update if the setup button isn’t working. I think your buttons got some moisture in them and may have corroded (the contacts are very tiny and sensitive).

You could try putting one in a bag of rice over night but most likely they aren’t still wet, so you’re a bit stuck at this point until you can get it on the same wifi network as before (or force the heck out it and see if you can break through the corrosion). Contact cleaner can work but you have to break the watertight seal of the button cover, so not ideal.

You’re on the right track focusing on getting your old wifi credentials, once you do that, the cameras should all come online and receive the signal to factory reset, at which point they should go into “ready to connect”.

i thought about the moisture because one had been outside for 2-3yrs under a covered porch but had to endure TX weather. The other one, however, was always indoors in a good spot that didn’t get sun or wetness. So I assumed it was more because I hadn’t used either one in months. We’ll see if I can get it back on the network.

In the meantime, you can try “exercising” the button with something. Push it in and out fairly rapidly with something that can get in there well, may be enough to scratch the surfaces of the contacts. Do that while it isn’t connected to power. Then plug it in and see if the button works with a good hard press.

Depending the part of TX, it can be quite humid, so could have happened while they were in storage.

If your router has a guest network option, set up the guest network as 2.4 only and connect your phone to it using the old network credentials or new ssid and password. The cams are using the network ssid and password your phone is connected to setup. Other than that, stay with the moisture abatement suggestion given by other users. You maybe have damaged v3’s that may not be recoverable.

i appreciate the solutions. I feel the same in that I think the v3’s are toast. Even though they were in almost exact opposite environments.

The phone actually doesn’t have to be on the same network as the cams for setup, I’ve done mine with the cams on the IOT network and my phone on my main network without issue.

The challenge for OP is finding those old wifi credentials. If they can, then they can at least change the network and get the cams running again. A non functional setup button isn’t ideal, but they are still usable since they’re booting up fine and looking for wifi.
