Installed 2 v3 cams today and they are doing fine without any type of reception issues so far. The sensitivity at night is definitely way more sensitive than the pans they are replaced. Someone could take a draw of a cigarette a block away from the line of sight of the picture and the glare would set off an event. Lol no seriously though it picks up car light reflections from other streets to the point I turned the recording events off till later before bed when there will be less traffic. I’m getting events I’ve never got from my pan cam and can tell they are from cars a block or so away.
I’m interested in knowing how I can get this information? How do I know or figure out/test how much data my cams are getting in there positions.
Hummer, I think that an external antenna would kick butt 'cept I haven’t opened one up yet… I know others who’ve upgraded antennas in V2’s with good results.
In the end I had to install a WiFi access point literally 8 feet from the V3 camera so it could connect. The camera is outside just under the roof where the V2 camera was installed for over a year with zero connectivity issues. The new access point is inside the house behind the closest wall. Finally my V3 camera doesn’t drop out. V3 bad WiFi reception CONFIRMED.
I have a v3 in the backyard about 50 feet from the router.
To get a solid connection, I bought an inexpensive (approx. $25) “TP-LINK TL-WR940N Wireless N300 Home Router, 300Mpbs, 3 External Antennas, IP QoS, WPS Button”.
Configured it to “Extender Mode” and mounted it under the eave. Enjoying SOLID video from v3 and a reolink Lumus. Adding another Lumus for birdhouse and feeder.
In addition, I’m monitoring the v3 on my laptop using “BlueStacks 5” (free) software.
Here’s how I improved my outdoor v3 wifi performance:
-
Get a wifi “extender” to boost the wifi signal - I mention the “tp-link TL-WR940N” as a good option.
-
Use 5 GHz for any devices you can in order to free up the 2.4 GHz band.
Examples : cell phone, tv voice response. -
In the router, in 2.4 GHz specify the 40 Mhz band for faster throughput.
These 3 things improved my v3 wifi performance tremendously. It’s like watching a DVD only better, lol.
I’m having the same problem I just replaced a V2 that had been up over my garage door pointed at the driveway for 2 years It worked flawlessly I replaced it with a V3 for the better image and night vision and it can’t even upload 12-second clips to the cloud constantly fails The Wi-Fi radio in the V3 sucks…
I have v2’s that are three times the distance from the Wi-Fi router that connect without a problem… (And have 4 years), but the new V3 sucks, It takes forever to connect and it has never successfully been able to upload any 12-second clips It does record to the cloud…
…epic failure… and contacting customer services a joke… (Yes, the firmware is up to date)
And now you can’t even buy v2’s…
This company’s gone downhill. Contacting customer support is a joke… The AI, “powered by “solvy” system” is terrible.
(I’m thinking this is how a company behaves before it finally shutters its doors and unplugs the servers…)
I have seven other V2s that I’m not going to replace because of the V3 Wi-Fi radio problem.
Wyze Cam Black is a V2 and still for sale by Wyze
V2 Wyze Cam Black
The V3’s definitely have weaker WiFi compared to V2’s as I had to add an additional mesh wireless access point that the V2’s worked without the need for.
I can confirm same experience. This camera seems to have a very weak wifi antenna.
All of my issues were eliminated with a mesh setup. And I didn’t buy a high dollar setup nor did I even need a second router. I bought the meshforce m7 Triband WiFi router and being a mesh setup I knew I would be able to buy more M7 routers if needed but in my case 1 did the job flawlessly. I used to have my farthest cam go offline at least once a week and I’m now almost a year in and have not had a single issue. Also that farthest cam was a pan cam that has now been replaced with a v3 many months ago. Not a single issue. I’d highly recommend a mesh setup.
Yep, and here we are in November 2021 and still no solution for the terrible performance of the V3. I have a V2 and a V3 side by side, one pointing down the driveway, one pointed at the porch. The V2 has been flawless since I bought it 3 years ago. The V3 is nothing but trouble, I’ve spent HOURS troubleshooting, submitting logs, and discussing issues with customer support. Still no solution to the terrible connectivity which renders even basic functionality useless. I simply do not have the time to continue troubleshooting this piece of junk, guess I’ll be moving on to another brand.
Or get a Mesh WiFi Network or add a extra Mesh Satellite to your existing Mesh WiFi System.
Not like that has been suggested before, and solves the weak V3 WiFi Issue… Just Saying ![]()
