Can I use another (lower profile) USB wall charger instead of the Wyze supplied USB wall charger? For example, something like this one USB Wall Charger
I need it to fit in an outdoor plug that has a locking plastic cover over it. Thanks.
As long as the charger is 5V/1Amp you should be fine.
I have some of those. They work fine. 1 suggestion though: if you’re putting a Wyze cam on it then it may be best to have the Wyze Cam be the only thing plugged into it even though it has 2 USB ports on it. Note that the device shares power between both ports, so if you have another device plugged into it and the other device ever uses more than 5v 1A, your camera may malfunction. This is especially true for any Wyze cams that sometimes use more than 1A such as a pan cam. If you try to charge a phone on the same plug that your wyze camera is on, your camera might glitch out and then people blame Wyze even though they are the one not giving the camera sufficient power. I’ve seen this a lot and even tested it.
But in general, yes, these power adapters have worked fine for me, especially when used exclusively for a single device.
It would be dedicated to the camera. That unit is rated at 2.4 amps
That should keep the camera very happy
Yeah, you’ll be fine then. I just wanted to make sure you knew. It works great with only the camera on it
I did this, too. I replaced the stock pan V3 power adapter with a more compact type, to fit inside an outdoor outlet with a watertight, clear plastic cover.
That is exactly what I’m planning to do.
Which cover are you using?
Very similar to this outdoor outlet cover from Amazon.
I’m using similar to what @p2788deal posted found at any hardware store. Mine fit perfectly low profile charger plus smart plug.
I ordered one of these. Planning to install it this weekend! Thanks.
So would a standard Apple iPhone charger (Model: MD810LL/A) work? They are 5V/1Amp. They are low profile. The Amazon Basics ones I ordered are longer than the ones that come with the Wyze Cam v4.
Aren’t Apple chargers USB-C? You need a USB-C to USB-A adapter to use the stock Wyze USB cable.
Yes, the regular cube iPhone charger will work, even the iPad 2.1 Amp will work though they are a bit bigger.
No, the old Apple chargers are USB A.
I’m using several of the original iPhone chargers (approximately 3/4 inch cube) for the same reason: the Wyze chargers wouldn’t allow the weatherproof cover on my outdoor outlets to close with the cable plugged in. Purchased on eBay and they work fine.
I used one similar to the link you posted, it was generic and didn’t withstand the -30 cold last winter, so I changed it to a better brand and it withstood this year’s winter well
Yes.. I use them Ailkin brand double USB.
ALSO use their triple USB model.
They all work fine.
Wyze warts suck for longivity.
