Failing Indoor Power Adapters

Have had a couple of V3 indoor power adapters fail. Why doesn’t Wyze sell replacements? I don’t want and shouldn’t have to invest in the expensive OUTDOOR adapters.

Any 5v 1a or 2a wall charger bricks should work. I have used some old samsung wall bricks i’ve had laying around.

I never tried using an indoor brick outside.

Can you protect the indoor bricks from rain?

My indoor bricks haven’t failed since I installed them in 2019. I heard it happens.

I have two of them along with two smart plugs in a outdoor outlet with a weather proof cover, been there for 2 years.

Same here, except I have three of them  Somewhere on the forum I have a picture of one of them.

They’re out apparently. I had one fail to and since its outside of warranty, they were no help.

ANY USB 1 amp or better phone charger will work I use a samsung now…

Come to think of it, I am surprised Wyze still ships bricks. (Hopefully they don’t read these posts.)

Last couple of new Samsung phones did not come with bricks.

Do they have internal inverters, or whatever the name is?

No. Just have to use your previous brick or plug into USB. I believe Apple started the process of not providing a brick to save money. Unfortunately, Samsung followed.

I see, just for the record, I have a love/hate relationship with Apple.

My oldest v3 is coming up on 3 years and I have not had a camera, cord or power brick fail yet. When a power brick does eventually fail I was going to try these. The output is 5V and 2.1A.

Actually, here is a better price if you need a 3-pack.

I’ve had a few fail over the years. Just use whatever USB wall wart is lying around. Don’t most of us a drawer full of them? I have a bunch running on various 12 volt to 5 volt adapters too.

The last electric Norelco I bought on Amazon didn’t come with a brick. Just USB type A. Previous models provided a full two-prong AC plug.

The Samsung EP-TA20Jxxxxx or EP-TA50JWE output an extra 0.5A, with a slightly higher output voltage for those long cable runs and are more robust. I use them instead of the supplied wallwarts.

LOL ditto, I was like WTF my trimmer has to be USB too?

The real kicker is it is a proprietary cable, not USB on the trimmer end, totally defeating the purpose of any standardization anyway.

0.5A will probably be an issue for many cams, especially ones with spotlight etc.

I’d use something 1A or higher.

No… to save money, lots arent sending the bricks. Most new power bars have USB outlets. You can buy AC wall outlets with USB. There are USB banks out there with a bunch of outlets… Or, $1. Store… Just make sure its UL or CSA listed and above 1A…

I believe I said EXTRA 0.5A, above n beyond what the WYZE supplied bricks produce.

My bad, missed that, wouldn’t really expect it to be phrased that way. But extra vs. what? Wyze has 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0A adapters.

Most USB adapters put out a bit more than 5V, I’m sure if you test a bunch of different ones you can find some that are higher than others. Over a long cable run, an adapter with higher current output can help, but at some point the voltage drops too low and no amount of current will make up for it. That’s where larger gauge USB cables, shorter runs, or even using a POE solution will start to become necessary. Unless you want to over volt one end in hopes it will be the right voltage at the other, but that’s a pretty risky solution.
