User manual for cam v4

Can anyone please tell me where I can find a PDF version (or any version) of the user manual for the cam v4?

Welcome!

All the support knowledge articles can be found here:

Here is a link to the Quick Start Guide (QSG) PDF that is included with the camera.

Thank you for the quick response. However, was hoping for all info would be in one document, just like most other user manuals. It’s hard to finds something when you have to click on multiple links.

Thanks again.

What info are you looking for?

To my knowledge, there isn’t a traditional User manual for most Wyze products, or most smart home products in general. I have hundreds of smart home devices from dozens of companies and unfortunately few to none of them have much of a user manual anywhere, though there are a few that still do it. I’m not sure why it has become such a standard in the industry not to do it anymore. I think it’s because they try to make the User Interface so intuitive that they hope it’s generally not necessary, but it is frustrating to people who want to have a traditional user manual to learn about their purchase, rather than have to randomly explore things.

I’m currently trying to record what’s happening on an SD card, and want to play it back. I can’t find out how to do that. I have a pan cam and a wyze cam v1, and it’s really intuitive on both. Not so with the V4.

I clicked on something and some BS ad that wants me to enroll in a monthly payment subscription. I don’t want to do that. All I want is to record & then review what I’ve recorded at some later date.

But am sure something else might peak my interest and don’t want to keep asking for help. Just want a manual that shows me everything the V4 does. If I can’t find it, I may have to return the V4.

Thanks again.

Tech information is very limited these days, unfortunately. Surprised someone here hasn’t written accompanying manuals. Seems like an easy market.

Place a SD card in the camera . Then click into the live view of the camera. Then click the gear icon in the upper right corner. From that menu, click into advanced settings. At the top you will see the toggle to enable microSD card recording and then you can choose either continuous or events only to the SD card. In this screenshot I have it enabled and am recording continuously.

From that point forward, it’ll automatically record to the SD card. If you choose continuously, it will record 24/7, or if you choose event only, it’ll record the 1 minute for when the motion is detected. If the motion continues into the next minutes. It’ll record that minute as well.

Now say you want to review the footage, from the live view of the camera, click on the SD card button that is just below the live view shot.

Once you click that the playback menu will pop up like below. If you have a teal line on the right side, that is indicating that there is recorded footage for that time. You can scroll up and down to put the tie marker at wherever you want to view that footage.

Unfortunately, you will not get notifications of motion if it’s detected with this enabled, if you also want a notifications, you’d have to do some level of cloud event recording as well.

Is this new on the v4? No notifications without subscription? That would be a huge negative for that camera if so. With continuous SD recording on my older cams I still get a still frame notification of every event (with the 5 minute cooldown limitation).

Hello and THANK YOU for this info. Really helpful. OK, now that I’ve looked at previous events, how do I get back to live action? Am expecting a person & want to know when they arrive before they get to the door.

Also, when I tap the SD Card button, I also see a GO LIVE button. What does that do? I thought it would do just what it says, but the time-stamp on the recording does not match current time…it is 2 hours in the past.

Sorry…I’m looking at the wrong time stamp. It IS giving me current time.

I hate to bother you about this stuff, but you have been the best Wyze-related support experience I have had.

One more question, pls. Where can I find what each of the menu buttons are for. I now understand what SD Card does & think I know what Turn Off does, but in between is a head-scratcher.

I doubt it. I have a feeling that @Omgitstony is mistaken, I truly hope he is.

Not @Omgitstony that mentioned that. It was me, the one who is trying to find information about how the V4 works. I saw this ad? when I was clicking on different things in my quest to find our how things work on my new V4. It is an ad for “Get Cam Plus” and it wouldn’t let me go ‘back’. I had to close the tab to get rid of it.
Whatever I clicked on that presented me this ad, it appeared I had no choice but to choose a monthly or annual subscription. That’s why I closed the tab completely. I don’t know if thiw is new or not, but unwelcome in either case.

The is what I was referring to.

I totally agree on the above. I’m a bit confused as to what you are trying to achieve though?

What I’m trying to achieve is to know how the V4 works. There is NO documentation, eg: user manual, apparently. There is absolutely no way to contact Wyze with questions. I opened a chat session on Wed…still haven’t gotten an active session, and the ‘wheel’ keeps turning. I called the help line, on hold for almost 20 mins, then they dropped the call. So I’m frustrated with Wyze. I just bought this camera and cannot find anyway to know how it works, what the menu buttons do, etc. etc. I have a Wyze pan cam and Wizecam V1. Both are intuitive & easy to figure out. Not so with the V4. I don’t know if I need a subscription to Cam Plus or not. All I want to do is be able to watch live video, save it if I want to my SD Card, and then replay at some later date. That’s all I need. No sharing, no anything else.

Sorry for the lengthy response but frustrated with Wyze. I think I might return the camera for lack of documentation. It’s useless to me if I don’t know how it works.

You don’t need subscription to anything to be able to view live, record to SD card, view footage from SD card or save the footage to your album. Unfortunately Wyze changed the interface to all new cameras. The best way to learn how to use the camera is to start pocking around. That’s how we all do it.

No need to apologize, Wyze can be frustrating in so many levels.

That’s your prerogative, however you have thirty days to return it. Try playing around with it for a few days and see how far you’ll get. If still not happy, send it back and get something that you are comfortable with.

How do I create an album?

It’s not something you create. It is part of the Wyze app, that is where pictures and videos get saved when you download them either from cloud or SD card.

Addressing the original question:

As others have said, there isn’t one, but there is a Wishlist topic requesting this:

You’re encouraged to visit that topic, vote for it (click/tap the Vote button above the initial post), and include your own comments about why you think Wyze should implement this. I understand why they wouldn’t, because they’re in the practice of adding/changing features fairly frequently with app and firmware updates, so something static like a PDF might have limited utility and become dated pretty quickly, but I could see something like that or more robust in-app tutorials being useful to someone who’s new to a particular product.

Although we’re primarily a user-to-user support community, many of us genuinely enjoy helping, and I like seeing this kind of feedback, so thank you for sharing that.

Like @habib said, sometimes you just kind of have to play around with these things to understand how they work. They’re fairly intuitive (I think) once you start tapping, but if your previous experience is with earlier Wyze Cam models with the “old” UI, then I can definitely understand the frustration.

First of all, you mentioned the controls in the strip below the live view pane with SD Card on the left and Turn Off on the far right, so apparently you’ve learned that you can swipe left and right there to reveal more controls. A lot of people seem to miss that (it’s not as obvious as it could be), so good for you for getting that far! The other buttons:

  • Take Photo: Takes a still photo of the live view pane and saves it to the Album.
  • Record: Records a video clip from the live view pane and saves it to the Album.
  • Smart Focus: When enabled (the icon will be green instead of grey), will zoom an area of motion within the live view pane and appear to track it as it moves.
  • Siren: This is the thing many parents who use these as baby monitors grumble about because it’s easy to tap accidentally and produce an unhappy child.
  • Album: This is where you find the photos and videos you’ve saved when using the Take Photo and Record features above.
  • Timelapse: Creates a still image capture montage as a video over a user-defined period of time with captures at a user-defined interval.

This forum is my manual.

I am surprised with all the writing of great authors like @carverofchoice , @dave27 , @Crease , @Omgitstony and @Seapup , they don’t write a PDF. Guess I can cut-and-paste forum posts and call them books.

I used to love writing technical documentation along with my technical duties, long, long ago.

But then, most things technical to learn are not in the owner’s manual. You learn by intuition, feeling the flow or just stumbling on something. As technical as cars have become, I am surprised the dealers don’t offer a course on using the technology.

Always remember that Google can help.
