Updates broke my Fire monitors

Elected to update 8 V3 cams to 4.36.15.4231

& 1 V3 cam pan to 4.50.15.4231 today…..:enraged_face:bad idea. Because I lost functionality to the FIVE fire tablets i use as monitors. Those monitors are running app version 2.50xxx, because they aren’t compatible with app versions above 3.x

Now the cameras won’t connect because of the firmware update. I am so TIRED of the CONSTANT maintenance my wyze setup requires….Now it appears I’ll have to revert all nine cameras to an earlier firmware to regain usefulness. Is anyone from WYZE listening?

I hope so, because this early adopter and a former champion of these products is about ready to jump ship.:man_facepalming:t3:

This must be beta firmware? My Panv3s are up to date and are running 4.50.14.x

You can’t complain that Wyze requires a lot of maintenance if you’ve opted into the beta program. It may be a bug with the beta firmware, or it could be that they’re finally phasing out the 2.5 app (which will happen eventually as they add new security protocols, features, etc). User regression testing is the whole point of having a beta program. The 2.5 app is not officially supported, so again, even if it is a permanent thing, that’s the risk you take running unsupported software. If that is the case you’ll need to revert firmware and disable updates.

Yep, its beta firmware. So I left as beta tester. I’ll revert firmware tomorrow, and Ill have to see if someone at XDA can find a fix for the Fire tabs….I already debloated using Fire Toolbox, If not, Ill have to find a cheap android 10 inch tablet as replacement monitors.

Since you do not want maintenance and hassle and just want a stable environment, I’d say that’s a very good choice. The two things are contradictory to one another.

I have a Fire HD8 tablet and App version 2.50 is working fine. Live View, SD card playback and Cloud event video is working well.

I am on v3 firmware 4.36.14.3497 and Cam Plus Lite.

Use Fire Toolbox to load the current Wyze app versions.

…….’monitors are running app version 2.50xxx, because they aren’t compatible with app versions above 3.x’

And they all have been debloated with Fire Toolbox.

Not just to debloat, Fire Toolbox makes Fire tablets “work with app versions above 3.x.”

You don’t even need to sideload. The toolbox installs Google Play, and then you can install the Wyze app from there.

“The toolbox installs Google Play, and then you can install the Wyze app from there.”

Yes, installs Google Play, but google play says “ Not compatible with this device."

Then, I sideload 2.50x

Your tablets are probably 32 bit architecture, newer ones would probably work with 3.5.

Did you try to sideload version 3.xx before sideloading 2.50?

Yes. It freezes, will not work.

On the chance that what you’re describing is an unintended consequence of those firmware versions, I’d consider posting comments to the relevant Beta topic for those versions:

As @dave27 noted:

Since Wyze employees actually create the announcement topics for beta firmware and app versions in that category, I would expect those topics to be monitored for user problems with those versions so the problems can be remediated before those versions mature to RC or production status.

Thanks for the heads up. Will post there as well.:+1:t4:

You’re welcome, and thank you for taking the time to do that. Hopefully the message will get back to the engineers so they can address the problem.

That’s weird. I got all my Fire tablets refurbished from woot, the oldest one is probably from 2020 and all are running 64-bit Fire OS and able to install Wyze app 3.x. The best one happened to be the Fire Max 11, it’s pretty fast and its power button is actually a fingerprint scanner.
