Cam Pan V3 on Android won't connect

looking for a fix (obviously)

  • Purchased a WYZE Cam Pan v3 from Amazon Sept 6 2025 from Amazon
  • Upon arrival, installed, Updated the camera firmware and had it working just fine
  • About 2 plus weeks ago (or so), the camera started giving me a ‘Failed to connect. Error -3005’ error but on only Android based devices. (Samsung phones, Amazon Fire HD Tablet).
  • I am not aware if this failure coincides with any system or app updates
  • The camera connects and functions correctly on an iPad tablet.
  • All Android devices are running OS 9 and versions 3.6.7 or 3.3.6 of the Wyze app.
  • I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the camera on the Android devices
  • Rebooted all the Android devices
  • I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the camera in the app
  • The event list for the camera shows recent thumbnails of the room even though it won’t connect to the live stream
  • I have 9 other Wyze cameras of different models and this is the only one having this problem.
  • It is the only Cam Pan I have.

I suspect this is the problem:

You’re running older Wyze app versions on an older Android version. Recent firmware updates for some Wyze Cams have carried caveats like this:

What’s your Cam Pan v3’s current firmware version? Including information about your Android devices’ app versions is helpful, so thanks for including that.

At this point, you likely have two main options for continuing to use your Cam Pan v3 with Android devices:

  1. Update your Wyze app on your Android devices, which may involve replacing those with newer devices capable of installing the latest app.
  2. Flash your Cam Pan v3 to an older firmware version and attempt to prevent it from updating in the future.

Thanks!

You would think the App would have known not to upgrade the firmware. (or I would read the fine print instead of just clicking the prompts)

It’s also possible I upgraded the firmware from the iPad… oh well.

I suspected the firmware was the culprit as the latest update more or less coincides with the problem. I’ve been trying to step back the firmware following the instructions but it’s not downgrading.

I can’t update the Android OSs - so I have to do the firmware on the camera. Yeah, I’m one of those folks who uses old hardware

What gets me is how all my other cameras have no problem, just the Cam Pan.

Any tips on how to downgrade when the camera is being stubborn?

UPDATE: tried a different SD card and got it to downgrade and all is well!

THANK you again for the quick response.

You mentioned using an iPad, so I wondered if you updated your Cam Pan v3’s firmware while using an iPadOS device running a newer Wyze app version. :man_shrugging:

I do, too. Lately I’ve been considering OS options for a couple of old laptops that don’t officially support Windows 11 now that regular support for most Windows 10 channels has been discontinued. The desktop PC I use most frequently was originally delivered with Windows XP Pro (downgraded from Vista Business), and I ran Vista on that for as long as could before switching to Linux.:+1:

You didn’t mention what other Cams you’re using, so I can only speculate that they’re older models and/or using older firmware. I also think that at one point they removed Cam Pan v3’s Automatic Update toggle in its app settings—because I think I had Cam Pan v3s automatically update their firmware several months ago—and then apparently returned that feature. Hopefully you can keep that toggled off and avoid some future headaches.

Another thing to keep in mind is Wyze’s continued security improvements, and I think a lot of those have to do with VerifiedView. Some older Cams are unlikely to see firmware updates that incorporate this, and Wyze announced in their blog that older app versions (and potentially Cams) are unlikely to be supported at some point.

Good to know! :+1:

You added that while I was responding, but I want to go ahead and state a few things to keep in mind when flashing in case it could help someone else reading this:

  • The article that Wyze links from the Release Notes & Firmware page that seems like it should be about flashing firmware actually points (as of this writing) to an article about checking a Cam v3’s firmware version and using the regular in-app update. I’ve asked if that could be change to point to “How to flash your Wyze Cam firmware manually” but haven’t seen action on this.
  • The “How to flash your Wyze Cam firmware manually” article used to advise users in several places to copy a “folder” to the root directory of the microSD card being used to flash a Cam, but it’s important to instead copy the relevant .bin file to the card. It looks like Wyze has finally updated that article within the past month or so, though some confusing mentions of “folder” still appear to exist.
  • The advice to use a 32 GB (or smaller) card formatted in FAT32 is important. I’ve consistently had flashing failures when trying to use larger cards (formatted exFAT by default), even when I’ve forced a FAT32 format onto them. Flashing attempts with a 32 GB card (I haven’t yet tried anything smaller because I haven’t had one convenient) have yielded better results.

You’re welcome! Thanks for taking the time to post an update! :+1:

Sooo many - mostly older ones but I have a few of the newer ones. The Can Cam was one of the most recent acquisitions.

At this point, I won’t update any firmware - especially because my Android system apps won’t be updating.

I’ll roll the dice with the security aspect of it.

Thanks again!
