Unable to view Wyze Cam Pan v4 within Google Home

Recently purchased Cam Pan v4 and am ready to return it.

My firmware ver is 4.70.0.2415 which updated today,

The camera and my Pixel 6 are on the same IoT network. The IoT network allows both 2.4 and 5GHz.

I have real time access to images on the Wyze app.

Google Home seems to complete the setup but all that is diplayed is a black screen with the message “camera is unavailable”.

Multiple uninstall and reinstalls have not resolved the issue.

A search of the issue suggests that my problem is shared by many which surprises me as I would expect Wyze to be anxious to ensure their product(s) properly functioned.

Any final suggestions before I box this puppy up?

Welcome to the Forum, @greg.rich!

Your post doesn’t make it clear whether you’re trying to use the Google Home app on your phone or some other kind of display connected to Google Home, so I’m guess it’s the former, and I think you’re unlikely to have an optimal viewing experience with that, which is why I don’t recommend it. If you’re trying to view Wyze camera feeds on a mobile device, then the native Wyze app is going to give the most reliable result. I believe this has been the case for a long time, even for Android users. I don’t know where you searched for information about this or what results you saw, but iOS users of the Google Home app seem to have it even worse, at least as far as what I’ve read here in the Forum for quite a while.

I can stream Cam Pan v4’s live view to a connected display within Google Home, like the Home Hub I use in the kitchen, and that actually works pretty well. If that’s what you’re trying to do, then sharing more detail about your experience and what you’re using might be helpful.

This isn’t a Wyze-specific problem. I have Wi-Fi cameras from another company that I’ve linked to Google Home, and I can stream those on the Home Hub or Google TV, but the Google Home app on my phone fails to show the streams. That’s a similar situation: I’m better off using that manufacturer’s app for viewing those cameras.

Thank you for the info and as you suspected my post had my Pixel 6 in mind as the device that I had in mind.

I am returning the Wyze Cam to resolve the issue.

You’re welcome. I don’t know what the technical details are that prevent some Wyze Cams’ feeds being viewed in the Google Home app on a phone or tablet some or all of the time, but in my experience (on Android) it’s not all Cams and not all of the time. I’ve gotten the impression from reading other things here in the Forum that there are issues that the Google Home and Apple teams need to work out amongst themselves, and with all of the changes Google frequently seems to make to the way Home works I imagine that they’re not always keeping Wyze or other device manufacturers in the loop for what’s required to remain compatible or adjust to Google’s changes. Like I said, I have other non-Wyze cameras that won’t stream to the Home app on my phone at all but will stream just fine to a Home Hub, Google TV, or Chromecast. :man_shrugging:

Sometimes I’m surprised that these things from different companies even talk to each other at all!
