Thieves invaded my neighborhood yesterday morning and was checking vehicles to be unlocked. They checked my truck. You cannot see it in the video, but it was locked. Then they went up the street and checked the neighbors truck. It was unlocked and they stole it.
You can see them steal it at the end of the video at the top right.
Glad your vehicle was locked. Too many people make it way too easy for the bad guys.
In my opinion, turn off the stupid green box…
Didn’t take that guy to long from the time he ran across the street until he backed the truck out. It sure wasn’t their first time. You should turn off that green motion tagging box, it’s distracting but it loves the
How on earth did they pull that off so quickly though? Older vehicles are easy to hot wire and steal, but I thought most modern vehicles now had plenty of countermeasures in place to make it harder to do. It seriously took them less than less than 10 seconds to enter the truck and drive away. I would’ve at least expected them to have to do something to bypass the various immobilizers, etc. It looked to me like the truck turned on WHILE they were still running up to it like they had the keys with them and did remote start as they ran up to it.
Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s possible to bypass the countermeasures to start vehicles without a key…but not in 10 seconds…they didn’t have enough time to pop the hood, rewire stuff, etc. They just jumped in, started the truck and drove off. That’s crazy.
Did you talk to those neighbors and share this video? I almost want to believe that one of the bad guys lived at that house and they were all just checking neighbors’ cars and the guy just decided to get in his own truck and meet the rest of his buddies somewhere.
Even if they were using some kind of random keyfob cycler to find a vehicle that would turn on remotely, remote start doesn’t typically enable driving, just the Vehicle ventilation system…but there are some that might allow starting the engine remotely and driving off without the physical key.
Something in this video just baffles me though. I really don’t understand how the truck turned on while the guy was running up to it, and he drove away within 10 seconds without rewiring things, etc. It doesn’t add up. Anyone have any logical hypothesis on this?
No. I am amazed. Time to go back to The Club. So glad I have a garage.
Btw, I like the green box but it could interfere with identification.
The thief found the car key inside the car.
Sounds like something my teenage daughter would do…(Leave the keys in her unlocked car, not steal a truck)
That was my guess as well.
An all too common occurence.
Very sad.
My main question is why it seemed like the truck turned on WHILE one of them was still walking up to the truck. Maybe I just missed seeing someone else go there first and get in before the other guy jumps in afterward. That could explain it. It just looked like the truck turns on while someone is walking up to the truck, then it speeds away within a few more seconds after that.
The truck stolen was a Ford F150. Maybe 3 or 4 years old. I emailed the video to the local police. I don’t really know these neighbors. My oldest daughter knows them. I text the videos to her and she text it to the them. They were happy to get the video.
The victim had a camera that picked up their truck being stolen. Not a Wyze cam, they sent it to me. I’ll see if I can upload it.
Thanks for the update! That makes much more sense now. They were definitely looking for keys in all the common places (behind the visor, etc). Sounds like they must have found one, and they were there longer than it looked when I was viewing from so far away. I feel better knowing it wasn’t a 10 second theft or whatever it kind of appeared to be. Still sad for the neighbor. They look like Teenagers. Probably drug addicts too. The runner, runs weird.
We had people going through the neighborhood checking for unlocked doors. My neighbor had some tools taken out of his truck. I added a rule to set off a siren if the camera watching my truck detects a person between 1am to 6am.
I am old-fashioned. While I do have 8 Wyze cameras around the yard, I do not store junk so that I can keep my vehicles in the garage.
I realize I never shared my thief video from 3 years ago.
Our car was thankfully locked, and two other Wyze cameras caught the guy rifling through other cars in the neighborhood. However the other cameras are Wyze 1 and don’t have the good nighttime resolution like this camera (a Wyze Cam 2).
I sent the video to the local sheriff’s department, who posted it to their social media account. I understand that the perp’s aunt recognized him and ratted him out.
My three Wyze cameras run off of solar panels since we have no metered electricity at the road (info posted elsewhere in this forum).
Part 2 of the video. See the dumbass hide behind our car when other traffic goes by.
One of the other vehicles I keep in my garage.
My truck is to long but the Jeep will fit. My wife keeps it out unless there is bad weather.
Did the guy forget his bike?
