Thermostat Wiring Problems - Electric Heat Pump

Hi, I tried to set up Wyze yesterday but my issue is cold air comes out for both heat and cooling tests.

Info about my system:

  • Electric heating pump and A/C unit
  • Old thermostat (currently reinstalled it) honeywell thermostat th6210u2001

What I have tried:

  • Restarted the thermostat in the app
  • Factory reset the thermostat using the physical button and restarted the setup process (two times)
  • Confirmed breakers were back on
  • Confirmed I followed wiring proceedure according to Wyze app
  • Tried toggling the “Swap to Heat and Cool” toggle from OFF to ON via the Advanced settings in the app, which did not change anything

This is the wiring set-up of the original Honeywell thermostat:

Wires Y,G, R, E, C, O/B

I connected these to what the app said to do:

(I would post a photo of this, except new users can only attach 1 photo to a post which is the silliest thing I have ever heard of.)

Y, G, Rc, C, O/B, *

The thermostat has power and is able to be set-up in the app, but tests for heat cause only cold air to come out. Further tests manually trying to raise the heat also produce only cold air, even waiting a couple of minutes.

Any suggestions? I just can’t understand it, even after researching what all the wires do!

The E wire seems to be a heat pump thing. If it gets too cold it can’t use the fan/pump, and must heat up the coils directly (I believe). And thus why there is no “W” wire I saw often when googling these type of systems.

I think that unless you tell the wyze thermostat it has a W wire of some sort, it assumes that you only have cooling
try telling it that your wires are Y1, W1, Rc, *, G, O/B, C
and then just don’t hook anything to W1 - It will complain that there’s nothing there, but you can skip over that error. (E can go to *)
